Registered Nurse - Operating Room

Summary The Miami A Medical Center is seeking for a Registered Nurse Operating Room who is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care at the Miami VA HCS. Responsibilities VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards The Registered Nurse Operating Room (OR) is located at the Perioperative Section at the Miami VA Medical Center located at 1201 NW 16th Street, Miami, FL 330125, the RN (OR) reports to the Service Section Nurse Manager or designee. The Registered Nurse Operating Room (OR) is a proficient nurse who is accountable for patient outcomes resulting from the nursing care for the patient undergoing a surgical/ invasive procedure. The perioperative OR RN plans, directs and coordinates the care of every patient undergoing operative and other invasive procedures, taking into consideration respect for the individual and recognition of the important contribution that each team member makes to the patient's well-being. This OR RN is expected to function proficiently in both the circulator and scrub role within the OR and to be competent in all surgical specialties served. The OR RN maintains knowledge of current Association of peri-Operative Registered Nurses (ORN) Standards, VHA Directives, and service level standard operating procedures. The OR RN assures the sterility of the surgical field is maintained and all instrumentation and equipment in play is used in a safe and efficient manner. The Operating Room RN in the circulating role coordinates the care of the patients, serves as the patient's advocate throughout the intraoperative experience, and has responsibility for managing and implementing activities outside the sterile field. Activities are directed toward assuring patient safety and achieving desired patient outcomes. The nursing process is used as a framework for these activities. The duties Of the Registered Nurse Operating Room (OR) include but not limited to: Providing emotional support to the patients prior to the induction of anesthesia Performing ongoing assessment. Formulating nursing diagnosis. Developing and implementing a plan of care. Documenting patient care to accurately reflect patient status and patient care activities. Evaluating patient outcomes Teaching patient and family. Obtaining appropriate surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment Creating and maintaining safe environment. Assisting a surgeon with surgical positioning. Administering medications. Implementing and enforcing policies and procedures that contribute to patient safety, such as surgical checklists,
