Summary The Chemotherapy Infusion Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) delivers high quality and evidence-based care to oncology patients and their families. Uses a team approach to identify, analyze, and resolve patient care problems with measurable outcomes. Responsibilities Major duties include, but are not limited to: Completes physiological assessments and completes documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) in accordance to established policies and procedures. Triages patient problems and assists in the evaluation of symptoms and initiates interventions in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Monitors, tracks/tends, and reports ongoing care needs and outcomes to the interdisciplinary team. Provides a safe working environment while administering, handling, and disposing of antineoplastic drugs and medical waste. Oversees the administration and management of various medical procedures and treatments in the infusion setting, including, but not limited to antineoplastic treatments, immunotherapy treatments, blood product administration, and therapeutic phlebotomy. Demonstrates knowledge of vascular access types, to include peripheral intravenous catheter (PIV), peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC), central inserted central catheter (CICC), and implanted venous ports (Port-a-Cath). Manages monitoring requirements for specific drugs, handling immediate infusion reactions, and preventing and managing oncology-related symptoms and adverse events, such as chemo-related symptoms and immune-related adverse events. Conducts in-service education based on insights gained from oncology professional development activities and acquiring specialized skills in oncology-specific areas, including chemotherapy administration, oncology electronic ordering systems, and calculating drug dosages. Assesses a patients physical and emotional status as well s the patients and family knowledge of the disease and its management through the continuum of treatment. Clinic intake including obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, blood glucose testing and completing required clinical reminders, oncology distress screening, and the outpatient clinic intake note as needed. 12 hours of oncology-related continuing education nursing contact hours per calendar year or Oncology Nursing Certification in accordance with our Commission on Cancer Accreditation. Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire and renewed according to the governing organization to maintain current.
