DPW Laborer Eligibility Pool

JOB REQUIREMENTS: The City of Green Bay Department of Public Works (DPW)is developing an eligibility pool for the position of Laborer. Thisposition performs all work related to maintenance and construction ofstreets and other public works facilities, including oiling, crackfilling, hot and cold mix patching, snow and ice control, building snowfence, and other similar work. The ideal candidate will be selfmotivated, adaptable, and possess good conflict resolution skills.Examples of Duties: Laborer (Streets) -Operates vehicles, trucks andother equipment for maintenance and construction of streets. -Drivestruck or equipment in snow plowing and ice control operations. -Assiststruck driver. -Performs daily inspections and minor maintenance onequipment, including refueling, washing and minor greasing operations.Reports all mechanical problems to Motor -Equipment Supervisorimmediately. -Performs internal maintenance on City buildings andfacilities. -Trains employees as assigned. -Performs other duties asassigned. Laborer (Sanitation) -Loads solid waste onto compactor garbagetrucks. -Collects solid waste and recycle carts as needed. -Loads,brush, bulky items including refrigerators and stoves and other refuseonto trucks during overflow weeks. -Performs minor maintenance on trucksincluding washing, refueling, and minor greasing operations. -Assiststruck driver as necessary. -Trains employees as assigned. -Performsother duties as assigned. Operator I (Days or Nights) -Operates streetsweeper or flusher, sidewalk equipment and all other equipment asrequired. -Responsible for and performs daily maintenance on equipment,including refueling, greasing, washing and minor repairs. Makeschangeovers on equipment as required. Reports all mechanicaldifficulties to the Motor Equipment Section immediately. -Changes gutterbrooms and helps mechanic with the main brooms. -Trains employees asassigned. OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge,Skills & Abilities: -Knowledge of the principles, practices and safetyprecautions of Public Works activities. -Ability to follow oral andwritten instructions. Ability to utilize a computer and the requiredsoftware. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and inwriting. Ability to establish and maintain effective workingrelationships with staff and the public. Ability to drive various typesof trucks. Ability to work the required hours of the position. May berequired to demonstrate minimum competency by successfully passingapproved tests. Physical Requirements Ability to perform the followingactivities: -Frequently lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. -Liftingand carrying in excess of up to 100 pounds occasionally with assistance.-Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending and stooping. -Ability toreach and climb. -Ability to work in varied environmental conditions.The above is not to be construed as an exhaustive statement of duties,responsibilities or requirements.
