Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) - Clinical Information (CI) and Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) Coordinator serves as a resource in the use of information technology and BCMA that supports and optimizes the provision of patient care and medication administration. They provide the leadership in the assessment, planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of CI systems and BCMA. To include serving as an educator, analyst and consultant for these programs. Responsibilities The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being. The Clinical Informatics Registered Nurse (RN) /BCMA Coordinator exercises leadership in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of hardware and software applications integrated with the electronic health record (EHR) and associated programs/applications. The Informaticist collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including other program and service leaders at the facility and network. They work closely to establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of Veteran Affairs (VA) staff nationwide. The focus is on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction. They demonstrate the following core informatics functions to include: content management, application support, health information technology system optimization, enterprise data management, business architecture management, partnership management, requirements management, and change management. Duties include, but are not limited to: Serves as an educator and consultant in the application of CI software programs and BCMA across the Fargo VA Health Care System. Coordinates the implementation of new and updated versions of CI software applications and BCMA. Provides oversight to clinical CI systems and software and evaluates to identify improvement processes and strategies. Facilitates installation, implementation, maintenance, training, and overall use of BCMA throughout the Medical Center. Tests and verifies updates, facilitates new software releases and associated packages prior to activation and collaborates with local IRM staff to resolve any issues. Facilitates the implementation and utilization of CI software applications to maximize the quality of patient care, patient safety and clinical work-flow efficiency and effectiveness. Recommends and assists with facility procedures and policies related to BCMA and safe medication management processes and clinical bar code expansion (BCE). Plans and ensures initial and ongoing training for all BCMA users and provides user support in troubleshooting operational issues.
