As a Product Quality Technologist, you'll serve as a technical support function for ensuring Own Brand products meet H-E-B's safety and quality standards. You'll perform tasks related to product maintenance and product development. We are looking for: - A bachelor's degree in food science, physical, life or applied science (such as engineering), or related field - Exposure to product safety and quality principles What is the work? Quality Assurance / Compliance / Data Analysis: - Participates in product maintenance/brand health activities, including first production, for Own Brand products or products perceived as H-E-B brand in assigned categories - Participates in Quality Assurance led product maintenance/brand health program initiatives - Prepares and documents product evaluations for preventative and reactive maintenance/brand health or first production in assigned categories - Procures product from stores or warehouse for evaluation and investigation; may perform onsite review of product for acceptability - Monitors multiple feedback channels and business intelligence data to identify potential product issues and alerts leader and business team as needed - Runs routine preventive and reactive reports to identify product issue trends and potential decline in performance - Monitors feedback following critical safety events to alert teams of any impacts to additional customers - Contributes to product investigations by conducting evaluations of products and basic analyses of customer feedback and business data (e.g., customer returns, store shrink, warehouse rejections) - Assists with gathering / sending documents to suppliers (e.g., certificates of analysis, photos, product evaluation details, audit / test reports) - Issue corrective action requests to supplier/facilities as a result of product evaluations, customer feedback, and safety recalls/quality withdrawals - Works with Customer Relations and business team to address routine customer inquiries and requests for documents such as Safety Data Sheets or Child Nutrition Labeling - Builds strong working relationships within the department and other related areas of the business - Manages organization/rotation of sample storage for Own Brand Quality Assurance - Learns and applies knowledge in these areas: - Basic principles of product safety and quality - Basics of risk assessment related to product safety - Prerequisite programs, including integrated pest management, GMPs, allergen control programs, prevention of foreign material contamination, preventive equipment maintenance - Basic shelf life and product lifecycle principles - Current local, state, federal and international regulations that may affect assigned product categories - Department processes, standards, and policies - Quality Assurance business objectives and goals What is your background? - A bachelor's degree in food science, physical, life, or applied science (such as engineering), or related field (preferred), or comparable experience - Relevant experience in manufacturing or retail Do you have what it takes to be an H-E-B Product Quality Technologist? - Basic knowledge of H-E-B systems related to supplier / product / project information, and inventory management; may provide feedback for continuous improvement of system capabilities and features - Knowledge of / exposure to manufacturing systems, product safety and quality management, HACCP/HARPC, GMPs, statistical process control, and risk assessment - Analytical skills for data interpretation - Strong verbal/written communication skills - Strong interpersonal skills - Organization and time-management skills - Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between tasks - Ability to work in a team environment and under direction of the leader - Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - Proficiency in planning/scheduling tools Can you... - Function in a fast-paced, retail, office environment - Work extended hours; sit for extended periods - Travel occasionally by car or plane with overnight stays 12-2024
