Summary The incumbent of this position will serve as a Supervisory Accountant in the Consolidated Accounting Office (CAO) of VISN 7 in Augusta, GA. It is estimated that approximately forty to fifty staff members will comprise the core of the CAO. The incumbent will supervise a Team of 7-8 Accountants and provide other Supervisory duties as assigned, as well as collaborate with various accounting technician staff on a regular basis to resolve accounting related issues. Responsibilities Supervisory Accountants in this position have the responsibility for working together to define objectives, plan, design, and coordinate the activities of the Central Accounting Office (CAO) in a clear, concise and consistent manner. Incumbent will serve as first line supervisor to the team applicable to their position and provide backup coverage during periods of leave for other supervisors and for the Chief, CAO. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operations of the CAO. Application of professional knowledge in the management of a fully automated, double entry, accounting Financial Management System (FMS). Management of processing and input of recurring and non-recurring transactions, reconciliations and audits. Directs the preparation as well as reviewing and analyzing reconciliation reports for FMS, VISTA and PAID systems that are applicable to the operations of the CAO. Manages validation controls for FMS, VISTA and Accounting systems. Adjusts controls to meet central and office and local requirements. Manages the overall workload distribution and training of the Consolidated Accounting Office. Serves as an internal auditor of Fiscal programs, participates along with the Chief, Consolidated Accounting Office in vulnerability assessments, systematic internal reviews, quality assurance programs, safety inspections, control point audits and many other program audits involving cost, obligation and receiving accounting systems. Examines and tests (using statistical and/or judgmental sampling) financial records and management controls. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/16/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR): An IOR is a basic requirement that must be met in order to qualify for the 0510 occupational series. Education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
