Job Title: Power Plant Operator Job Description This entry-level position is responsible for the safe operation of industrial machinery in support of power plant operations. The role involves ensuring the proper operation and maintenance of a commercial multi-unit power generation facility that operates on a 24/7 rotating shift. You will respond to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions and execute plant procedures as required, performing both planned and corrective maintenance. Responsibilities + Operate controls and equipment to regulate Heat Recovery Steam Generators, Combustion Turbines, Boilers, and Steam Turbines to maintain safe, compliant, reliable, and efficient combustion conditions. + Perform emergency operations to maintain electric service and safeguard plant equipment. + Conduct corrective and preventive maintenance on electrical and/or mechanical equipment, structures, and buildings of the power station. + Perform regular inspections and tests of facilities to determine the overall condition of the power plant. + Report upset conditions or anomalies in plant status to Operations and/or Maintenance Department Staff. + Perform daily, weekly, and monthly testing as required to maintain compliance with governing agencies. + Make necessary entries in the Operating Log. + Operate mobile heavy equipment such as wheeled dozers, haul trucks, and water wagons, as well as stationary heavy equipment like conveyors, stacker/reclaimer, and railcar dumper. + Perform semi-skilled mechanical maintenance as directed. Essential Skills + Valid Driveru2019s License. + High School diploma or equivalent. + Willingness to work swing shifts, extended hours, and be available for emergency call-outs. + Effective knowledge of industrial machinery operations, specifically heavy equipment. + Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. + Knowledge of principles of combustion, troubleshooting, and repair procedures. + Familiarity with lockout tag-out procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Ability to stand and walk on various surfaces and heights. + Capability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and stairs. + Proficiency in carrying and operating a fire extinguisher and escaping emergency situations. + Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull heavy objects. + Ability to wear all required PPE including hard hat, FR clothing, and steel toe shoes. Work Environment The power plant is located in the Mid America Industrial Park in Chouteau, Oklahoma. It is a coal-fired plant with two units, equipped with extensive pollution control equipment, and also serves as an informal wildlife sanctuary. Employees work in a rigorous environment focused on meeting government environmental standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chouteau, OK. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
