The laboratory is working on translating an advanced prototype device into a minimum-viable-product that can be utilized in hospitals and clinics. The postdoc will assist the laboratory in equipping the current prototype device with new features and capabilities such as incorporating new sensors and redesigning the hardware and software prototype. This position is a temporary position that will last 30 weeks from the start date. The University of Minnesota encourages a healthy work life balance for employees. Responsibilities Research and Development - 80% Develop a control system for a robot with multiple degrees of freedom. Coding software routines for robotic exoskeleton using Python and/or C++. Debugging and embedding software routines into the software architecture of the robotic system. Communicating with project supervisor and international partners. Assist in conducting clinical trial research using the device. Support experimental data collection, analysis, and presentation of results. Entrepreneurship Efforts - 20% Work with the PI and the team in the commercialization efforts. Interview people in the neurorehabilitation industry to understand current standards of practices. Qualifications Required Qualifications: PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related fields. Competence in mechatronics Proficiency in computing languages such as C++, Python & C#. Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in advanced controls systems, electromechanical design. Experience in integrating force/torque sensors in robotic devices Experience in robot kinematics and dynamics programming. Ability to work independently as well as in interdisciplinary teams Excellent written and verbal communication skills Interest in entrepreneurship skill development About the Department Department Overview The School of Kinesiology focuses on the biological, developmental, social, and behavioral bases of physical activity, recreation, sport and human performance through its programs in kinesiology, recreation and leisure students, and sport studies.
