JOB REQUIREMENTS: Instructor of Practice, Sports Journalism and MediaPosting Number: 201104667 Employment Status: Full Time Job Family:Faculty Position Overview The Diederich College of Communication atMarquette University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenuretrack participating faculty position at the rank of Instructor ofPractice with a teaching specialization in sports journalism and media,beginning August 2026. We seek an engaged teacher who can workcollaboratively across departments within the college and with otheracademic programs at the university. This faculty member will be aprincipal contributor to the college's new and rapidly growinginterdisciplinary major and minor in sports communication. Candidatesshould have a teaching and/or professional background in sportsjournalism, reporting, and/or broadcasting, including but not limitedto: working as a print, radio, or television sports reporter, producingnews broadcasts, calling (play-by-play, color, or sideline), orproducing live sports events. Ideal applicants share the DiederichCollege's commitment to creating a more inclusive environment for ourstudents while training them to work in a diverse industry. We encourageall interested candidates to apply and are particularly interested incandidates with a teaching focus that supports the college's existingcourses in sports journalism, sports media and culture, and/or sportsand society. The new faculty member will also develop other suitablecourse offerings, initiatives, and programs in the area of sportscommunication, as well as participate in and lead collaborations withcommunity members and alumni in local and regional sports organizations.The candidate will have the expectation of teaching courses in thejournalism and media studies curriculum and/or digital media, dependingon their areas of expertise. The new faculty member will also work withcolleagues to plan the annual Axthelm Memorial lecture, which invites asports professional to campus to speak and engage with our collegecommunity, as well as the annual student sports summit. In addition toteaching, the candidate will be responsible for advising undergraduatestudents and serving on college and university committees. J. Williamand Mary Diederich College of Communication: The College includes thedepartments of Communication Studies, Digital Media and Performing Arts,Journalism and Media Studies, and Strategic Communication. Atransformational $25 million gift from the Diederichs funded therenovation of historic Johnston Hall, which houses the College. Thisrenewal furnished Johnston Hall with state-of-the-art laboratory andstudio technology. Today, the Diederich gift helps support facultydevelopment, travel, and research throughout the College.
