Summary These positions are located in the Department of Justice, Executive Office for United States Attorneys, Legal Programs Office. EOUSA provides executive and administrative support for the 94 United States Attorneys' offices (USAOs) and coordinates and directs the relationships between the USAOs and other DOJ components and federal agencies. For more information on the Department of Justice and the United States Attorneys' Offices, visit Responsibilities Legal Programs assists in the articulation, development, and promulgation of policy which comports with the overall goals of the USAOs, EOUSA, and DOJ, and provides legal and management support, assistance and advice, and policy guidance to the USAOs across a variety of program areas, including: affirmative civil enforcement, appellate, asset forfeiture, bankruptcy, border and immigration, child exploitation, civil defensive litigation, cybercrime, eDiscovery, financial litigation, health care fraud, human trafficking, narcotics, Native American issues, victimu00ad witness, violent crime, and white collar crime. Legal Programs coordinates all aspects of these programs, including funding, legislation, administration, outreach, and assessment. Legal Programs also develops and promotes policies and procedures to improve the effectiveness of these programs and serves as a resource for the USAOs on issues affecting the programs. In addition, Legal Programs provides advice and support for various subcommittees and working groups of the Attorney General's Advisory Committee. Interns may assist with the following: Researching and updating legal outlines and case law compendiums; Researching statutes, regulations, administrative decisions, and legislative history relevant to legal programs and/or the subject of litigation in the USAOs; Analyzing the impact of Federal District, Circuit, and Supreme Court decisions on current litigation positions taken by DOJ and/or USAOs; Drafting memoranda on legal issues and policy questions presented to the DOJ, EOUSA, and/or Legal Programs; Researching and preparing responses to questions raised by USAOs related to various program areas; Researching and preparing responses to Congressional and other internal and external stakeholder inquiries; Preparing briefing material for DOJ and EOUSA leadership; Preparing presentation materials for trainings, presentations, and other substantive events. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To be eligible for this internship ALL of the following requirements must be met: Student Status: Acceptance of applications for this announcement will be extended to rising second or rising third year Law Students. An eligible student is an individual enrolled in law school pursuing a Juris Doctor degree. Successful candidates must have outstanding academic records, superior writing skills and be in good academic standing at his/her university. Student interns must be United States Citizens. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement. Grade Point Average: You must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Citizenship: Student Interns must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States. (Currently, natives of American Samoa, Swains Island and certain inhabitants of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are the only groups that owe permanent allegiance to the United States). Background Investigation: You must successfully complete a suitability review and receive a favorable determination based on information provided in their security forms, a credit report, and fingerprint check to determine suitability for Federal employment. Education All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at an institution that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications.
