JOB REQUIREMENTS: Reference & Instructional Services Librarian & AdjunctProfessor of Law Posting Number: 201104675 Employment Status: Full TimeJob Family: Faculty Position Overview The Reference & InstructionalServices Librarian teaches an advanced legal research course,collaborates with colleagues to provide legal research instruction inother areas of the curriculum, and provides legal research instructionand reference assistance to law students, law faculty, the Marquettecommunity, the legal community, and members of the public. Lawlibrarians also collaborate on reference policies, collectiondevelopment, assessment, and other programs, service, and resources.Duties and Responsibilities Teach in the fall and spring semesters,including designing, developing, teaching, and assessing advanced legalresearch courses. In rotation with other law librarians, teach advancedlegal research during the summer session. Support other areas of thecurriculum through legal research instruction and outreach, including incollaboration with legal writing faculty in the first year LegalAnalysis, Writing, and Research curriculum. Participate in the weeklyreference schedule, including the potential for occasional evening andweekend hours. Participate in the library liaison program, offeringresearch and research support to faculty and research assistants.Develop and update research guides, bibliographies, or otherinstructional materials and resources. Collaborate on collectiondevelopment and related policies. Collaborate in the development,evaluation, and implementation of law library goals, objectives,policies, procedures, services, and publications as needed or assigned,and perform other related duties as assigned. May serve on law library,law school, and university committees. Participate in the life of theLaw School and in professional development activities. RequiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities J.D. from an ABA -accredited law school.M.L.I.S. (or equivalent) from an ALA -accredited institution or currentenrollment in such a program with degree completed within one year ofthe date of hire. Knowledge of legal research methodology and legalbibliography in multiple formats. Excellent interpersonal,organizational, and communication skills, including the ability tocommunicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Flexibility and theability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team.Strong service orientation and ability to work with a diverse patronpopulation. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Experienceteaching legal research or information literacy, including the ethicaland effective use of generative artificial intelligence tools.Experience providing research and reference services. Experience workingin a law library or in a legal practice setting.
