Summary The function of the CRNA - Nurse Education Coordinator, is to provide nursing professional development leadership in the development, coordination and implementation of educational programs and trainings that foster staff development and enhance the quality, safety and processes of patient care. The aspects of practice include direct patient care, administration, education, and research activities. Responsibilities Provide anesthetic services within five general categories to include: pre-anesthesia evaluation and preparation; anesthesia induction, maintenance, and emergence; post anesthesia care; peri-anesthetic and clinical support functions; and emergency response techniques. Develop and implement a comprehensive anesthesia plan of care for patients requiring local, regional, general, and monitored anesthesia both inside and outside the Operating Room (OR) suite. Function as resource for staff education and be willing to be a preceptor and adjunct clinical faculty for health care trainees rotating through the facility. Coordinate education within the anesthesia department to include, but not limited to Phase I (non-clinical) and/or Phase II (clinical) for nurse anesthesia students or health care trainees who rotate through the VA Healthcare System. Provide ongoing education for employed CRNAs and other training activities within the department. Develop and review orientation programs, journal club, scheduling, counseling, and grading, monitoring cases, mentoring research and/or formal scholarly projects, prepare and teach lectures, provide hands-on lab/simulation instruction, administrative support, coordinate with didactic instructors, and clinical anesthesia. Assist and provide development opportunities for primary clinical instructors and other department members to maintain their skills and keep current with progressive technical knowledge. Demonstrate a commitment to in-service training for staff and facility continuing education to provide accurate information to the population served.
