Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Responsibilities The BHIP NP is a staff member of the Mental Health Service, assigned to the BHIP program, which is part of the Mental Health Service Line at WCT OPC. The BHIP NP utilizes critical thinking in the application of advanced clinical health care knowledge and skills, in conducting comprehensive physical examinations of Veterans. An APNP is a professional nurse who has obtained a master's degree or greater in nursing and is licensed to perform acts of prevention, diagnosis and prescription of therapeutic or corrective measures. The APNP uses specialized knowledge, skill, proficiency, and independent practice to contribute to optimal patient outcomes. The APNP functions autonomously and collaborates with other health professionals. The BHIP NP will be administratively responsible to Chief of Mental Health WCT OPC, under the supervision of the Supervisory Psychiatrist WCT OPC in consultation with the Nurse Manager WCT OPC, under the guidance of the Chief Medical Officer WCT OPC. Functions or Scope of Assigned Duties: The BHIP NP: participates in the performance improvement needs of the BHIP Program in collaboration with other team members, the Supervisory Psychiatrist WCT OPC, and the Chief of Mental Health WCT OPC. serves as primary provider for Veterans engaged in BHIP services. serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team for provision of services to Veterans served within the MH Service. participates in performance improvement activities to enhance services to Veterans served in BHIP program. collaborates with BHIP staff to provide on-going education regarding medical/mental health vulnerability of the Veteran population to Mental Health Service staff and Veterans. uses clinical knowledge and judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision making, and evaluating current practice and outcomes and demonstrates clinical and mandatory competencies for this position. uses professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities. provides continuity of care for assigned Veterans working in consultation with staff throughout the MH Service and medical center. provides mental health care with skill and sensitivity to Veterans who are homeless, mentally ill, and/or using illicit substances. evaluates Veterans' physical and mental health, family and social history to identify health care needs. appropriately educates the patient of the need for follow-up care and referring Veterans to the appropriate level of care. works in consultation with other Services. M. fulfils other duties as assigned by the Supervisory Psychiatrist WCT OPC, and the Chief of Mental Health WCT OPC, consistent with clinical practice standards.
