Position Type Part Time - Union Education Level 2 Year Degree Travel Percentage None Category Health Care Description Job Purpose: The Registered Nurse is accountable for providing direct and indirect patient care to children with special health care needs and their families in accordance with the nursing process and established policies and procedures, the nurse practice act, local, state, federal and Joint Commission standards. Essential Job Functions: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.) + Uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for children in accordance with the patientu2019s physical, psychological, emotional and mental needs and wellbeing, the childu2019s established medical orders, and the needs of the child and their family. + Carries out all clinical skills with accuracy, efficiency, and in accordance with standards of care established by agency and by nursing practice guidelines. + Recognizes, questions, and reports significant patient findings and/or inconsistencies in medical/nursing orders or treatment regimen. + On an ongoing basis evaluate and adjust client care plans based on patient outcomes and condition in accordance with agency guidelines and in collaboration with care team. + Maintain accurate and thorough medical records and documentation of nursing interventions and outcomes in accordance with agency policies. + Collaborate with care team to update clientu2019s medical and care orders, review discharge orders, and revise the KardexUses effective written and verbal communication and listening skills to ensure effective, accurate, and thorough communication. + Provide updates on clientu2019s needs, medical status, and changes in condition to clientu2019s care team including parents/guardians and physicians. + Actively engages in teaching new skills and reinforcing learned skills including but not limited to, general wellness techniques, safety, diet and nutrition, new procedures and equipment, medications, and emergency procedures to PSN staff and visitors and client families and caregivers. + Assist in care coordination and case management between families, physicians, and other healthcare providers. + Oversees and delegates tasks appropriately to LPNs and CNAs. + Provides general supervision and guidance to volunteers. Attend to any operational or patient care issue through established channels. + Operate and maintain medical equipment safely and effectively in line with established agency policies and procedures. + Manage and inventory patient and program supplies and report shortages promptly. Perform daily checks of availability of any needed daily patient supplies and inform parent/guardian or nursing supervisor of any missing items. + Accompany and ensure the safety of children during transportation to and from the program. + Participate in the orientation and supervision of new hire nurses. CNAs, and clinical students. + Maintains professional conduct, infection control and safety standards, and patient confidentiality at all times. + Participates actively in care conferences and home visits as needed. + Participates in department quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities. + Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure and Credentials: (Where appropriate, education and/or experience may be substituted) Minimum Required Education : Associateu2019s degree in Nursing Minimum Required Experience : Experience with pediatric patients. Required License u2013 Certification u2013 Registration: Issued By Governing Body (if applicable): + Current WI Nursing License, without limitations that are incompatible with duties, responsibilities, supervision, or practice setting. Travel Type : None Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: + Must either be CPR certified at the start of employment or complete CPR certification course within 30 days of hire and must maintain active CPR certification through periodic renewal as dictated by the certification. + Ability to successfully deal with change and stressful situations. + This position is responsible for the supervision and safety of clients in a multi discipline care setting. As such, this position must be able to observe client activities, detect areas of danger, and distinguish when clients who are non-communicative are in need of personal cares, and converse clearly with clients and staff on a frequent basis. + This position must frequently and effectively communicate complex ideas and instructions to other staff. + Customer Focus: Anticipates client needs and responds appropriately. Physical Requirements, Visual Acuity, and Work Conditions: Physical Requirements: Must frequently be able to move, transport, position, push/pull and/ or lift objects or equipment weighing at least 50 pounds a distance of 450 feet. Must be able to safely push a person in a wheelchair on a level floor or on a wheelchair ramp in various weather conditions. Must be able to transfer a person from a wheelchair to the toilet, chair, or van seat/car with use of a gait belt and/or manual or power Hoyer lift. Visual Acuity: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal. Working Conditions : PSN operates from 6am to 6:30pm 5 days a week and requires flexibility to cover the needs of the business as it evolves and changes.
