Job Description

Summary Accurately and efficiently transport patients, wheelchairs, stretchers and traction equipment to and from the nursing units and ancillary departments. Use transport equipment correctly ensuring safety measures are adhered to. Cleans, repairs and maintains equipment for operability. Support the philosophy of nursing to provide better patient care.Major Job FunctionsThe following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:Transport patients with appropriate and approved devices safely and in a timely mannerObserve patients for any changes in condition and report these promptly to shift supervisor and appropriate nursing staffDemonstrate correct techniques in handling patient tubes, IV’s and other patient equipmentDemonstrate proper procedure for transporting patientsUtilize proper body mechanics to discharge, transfer and position patients during transportIdentify transportation equipment in need of repair and follow appropriate steps to repair equipment for safe useUse Rover device properly with EPIC Transport Command CenterOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsThe following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:Education and Formal Training:High school diploma or equivalent requiredWork Experience:1 year experience in patient transportation services and prior hospital experience preferredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:Ability to meet and maintain requirements of a healthcare transporterAbility to meet requirements for CPR for Healthcare Provider, Nonviolent Crises Intervention (NCI) training and Restraints, Seclusion and Safety devicesAbility to identify, understand and regulate flow meter on E-CylinderAbility to display exemplary customer service skillsGood problem solving skills, organizational skills, flexibilityStrong interpersonal skills and ability to quickly assess situations and respond promptly and appropriatelyAbility to care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, bariatric, and geriatric patientsDemonstrated competency with respect to the age specific physiological, developmental and spiritual needs of the patients typically servedPhysical Requirements:Ability to discharge/transfer patients and maneuver wheelchairs and stretchers with patients, including postmortem transportAbility to manipulate and monitor transport equipment, which often accompanies patientsAbility to assume awkward positionsAbility to move within assigned areas and throughout the medical center and detached buildings as necessaryMay require moderate to heavy liftingAbility to stand, walk and/or bend for prolonged periods of timeSpeech, visual and auditory acuity is essential for communicationPosition may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with bloodRequired Licenses and CertificationsBLS - American Heart AssociationCape Fear Valley Health System is an Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/Disability/Veteran/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity
