Job Description Location: Chicago, Illinois Business Unit: Rush Medical Center Hospital: Rush University Medical Center Department: Rush Simulation Center Standard Patient Activity Work Type: Restricted Part Time (Total FTE .10) Shift: Shift 1 Work Schedule: 10 Hr (8:00:00 AM - 6:00:00 PM) Rush offers exceptional rewards and benefits learn more at our Rush benefits page ( Pay Range: $25.00/hr Rush salaries are determined by many factors including, but not limited to, education, job-related experience and skills, as well as internal equity and industry specific market data. The pay range for each role reflects Rushu2019s anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case. Summary: A standardized patient is a person trained in a case portrayal to provide a patientu2019s health history, demonstrate physical exam findings, display emotions and/or other behaviors such as body language in a realistic, repeatable and consistent manner. Once the case portrayal is completed, the SP evaluates a learneru2019s clinical skills using standardized assessment tools. SPs provide feedback on learnersu2019 communication skills either verbally or as u201cwritten feedback.u201d Standardized patients may work one-on-one with a learner or with a group of learners. They work with all levels of learners from beginning to advanced learners including health care professional students to practicing physicians, nurses and other health care professionals. The simulated patient encounters are designed to enable experiential learning in a safe and professional environment and accurately assess clinical skills performance. Other information: Required Job Qualifications: u2022 High School diploma or equivalent u2022 Excellent communication skills, including listening and recall skills u2022 Ability to accurately and convincingly maintain a specified character as trained. u2022 Ability to work a flexible schedule. u2022 Ability to follow directions and incorporate trainer feedback. Preferred Job Qualifications: u2022 Bacheloru2019s degree in theater, health care profession or education u2022 Experience as a standardized patient. Responsibilities: Job Responsibilities: u2022 Memorizes case script information detailing the patientu2019s health history such as current complaint/situation, personal and family medical history, medication names and dosages, social background and lifestyle. u2022 Demonstrates convincing emotions and behaviors such as pain portrayal, worry or emotional distress. u2022 May demonstrate accurate physical exam signs and symptoms such as localized discomfort, limited or abnormal movement. u2022 Presents case information in a standardized manner to each learner. u2022 Maintains patient portrayal at same time focuses attention on learnersu2019 clinical performance in order to evaluate their skills. u2022 Participates in group training and mentorship of entry-level standardized patients. u2022 Maintains confidentiality of information related to cases, learners behaviors and feedback evaluations. u2022 Provides educationally constructive feedback within structured format as appropriate to the position. u2022 Allows video recording of patient encounters with learners to be used for educational purposes. u2022 Other related duties as assigned.
