This role is responsible for monitoring city, state and federal level legislative activity, conducting policy research, engaging with local elected officials and stakeholders, and coordinating advocacy strategies. The Associate plays a key role in ensuring the organization maintains strong relationships with the Metro Council, the Mayoru2019s Office legislative affairs team and other key policy stakeholders.. Typical Duties + Track municipal ordinances, resolutions, budget actions, and regulatory proposals. + Prepare timely summaries and alerts on relevant legislative activity. + Maintain a calendar of key city meetings, hearings, and deadlines. + Conduct background research on city policies, programs, and initiatives. + Analyze policy impacts and prepare memos, briefs, and presentations for internal and external audiences. + Support development of policy recommendations and advocacy positions. + Serve as a lead for communication and relationship building with metro council members, mayoru2019s office staff, departmental leaders, and community organizations. + Attend metro council meetings, committee hearings, task force meetings, and community meetings. + Represent the organization in a professional manner in all municipal settings and maintain confidentiality. + Draft talking points, testimony, letters of support/concern, and advocacy materials. + Coordinate logistics for advocacy events, briefings, or coalition meetings. + Support grassroots or community engagement strategies where relevant. + Maintain internal tracking systems for legislation, contacts, and advocacy actions. + Support cross-departmental initiatives that require municipal coordination. + Assist with scheduling, materials, and follow-up for internal and external meetings. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited (4) four-year college or university and one (1) year of responsible, full-time employment in public administration, business administration, public health administration, public health sanitation, public health nursing, public health education, or other appropriate field. or One (1) year of graduate study in public health administration, public administration, or health education may be substituted for one (1) year of experience. or A minimum of seven (7) years of increasingly responsible experience in the areas of public health administration, public administration, public health sanitation, or business administration, of which at least one (1) year within the past three (3) years must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity.
