This fullu2011time role supports our daylight clinics, operating Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM, with shift times varying based on daily clinic needs. The Ophthalmic Technician Senior will provide advanced technical support to ophthalmologists, perform comprehensive diagnostic testing, and ensure exceptional patient care within a fastu2011paced, collaborative environment. Occasional travel-approximately 5%-to other UPMC Vision Institute locations may be requested based on staffing needs. Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the Ophthalmic Technician Career Ladder, based on their individual experience and education. Responsibilities: + History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity.Lensometry & Keratometry: automated and manual; ability to identify Fresnel, ground in prism & slab off.Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.Visual fields: Amsler grid and confrontation fields.Ocular Motility: functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus.Advanced Refractometry: manifest refractometry & auto-refractor, transposing scripts.Tonometry: Goldmann, ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each.Supplemental skills: pachymetry, Schirmer's, glare testing, color testing + Angle assessment & dilation of pupils.Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions.Ability to routinely perform visual fields, fundus, Ascan (Sonomed, IOL Master & Lenstar), corneal topography, OCT.Maintain patient flow for the service assigned to. Review schedules in advance to ensure efficiency. Work in collaboration with site/service to ensure technicians assigned to your service are working efficiently and assign lunches and additional tasks throughout the day making sure patients come first. Answer phone calls throughout the day from patients with questions about their treatment course and to triage patient problems, and schedule accordingly.Ability to scribe and assist with lasers, injections or other in office procedures.Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.Maintains and trouble shoots all ophthalmic equipment issues and alert manager when repairs are needed.Assist with the training and orientation of new technicians on all skills required of their position. Work with new and existing technicians on education and help with growth development within the career ladder.Works directly with the physicians, fellows, and residents of their service for increased efficiency and patient satisfaction.Will act as the site/service supervisor in absence of the assigned leader to maintain consistency within the office.Willing to travel to other clinical sites. Ophthalmic Technician Senior: + High school diploma or equivalent is required. + Minimum of 3 years ophthalmic experience and COT certification, + OR 5 years of ophthalmic experience and COA + or 7 years of ophthalmic experience. Ophthalmic Technician Intermediate: + High school diploma or equivalent is required. + Minimum of 1 year of ophthalmic experience required and COA certification, OR 5 overall years of ophthalmic experience. H1I: $22.52-$37.40/Hour Ophthalmic Technician: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred. Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred. Prior optometric or ophthalmic experience preferred.
