Next filing cut-offs are at 5:00pm on: 3/24/26, 4/21/26 (Final) Under supervision, receives telephone reports of emergency and non-emergency incidents from Sacramento County residents, contracting cities, and local, state and federal jurisdictions; and/or operates a control position at a console, the Sheriffu2019s Computer Aided Dispatch System, in the transmission of visual images and conventional two-way radio messages to officers. Examples of Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of u2022 Customer service techniques u2022 Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases u2022 English usage, grammar, punctuation, spelling, vocabulary Ability to u2022 Operate communications equipment by performing multiple hand and foot functions simultaneously u2022 Learn and adhere to Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations (Code of Federal Regulations, Title 47) governing use of radio and communications equipment used in the Sacramento County Sheriffu2019s Office u2022 Learn radio codes currently used in the Sacramento County Sheriffu2019s Office u2022 Learn penal codes currently used in the Sacramento County Sheriffu2019s Office u2022 Learn to operate a video data communications terminal u2022 Remain calm in emergencies u2022 Understand, retain, and transmit data while performing several functions at one time u2022 Analyze situations accurately and take effective action u2022 Read and interpret maps u2022 Learn major streets, highways, and districts in and around Sacramento County u2022 Use tact and persuasion to calm emotional callers and obtain complete information on reported incidents u2022 Speak English clearly and concisely u2022 Read and write English at a level necessary for effective job performance Employment Qualifications Minimum Qualifications One year of full-time paid experience performing duties comparable to the Sacramento County class of Sheriffu2019s 911 Call Dispatcher to include experience in a private or governmental agency involving extensive public contact in a stressful environment, receiving and resolving complaints, assisting in emergency situations, or coordinating many tasks simultaneously. Note: If the word u201cexperienceu201d is referenced in the minimum qualifications, it means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements. General Qualifications Training Requirement: All incumbents are required to complete both the Sheriffu2019s 911 Call Dispatcher training and the Sheriffu2019s Communications Dispatcher training within 12 months of appointment. POST Requirement: Completion of a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) approved abilities assessment test with a passing score is required prior to appointment to this class. Successful completion of POST Public Dispatchersu2019 Basic Course required within 12 months from the date of appointment. Incumbents in this class are required to maintain POST Dispatchers Certificate through Continued Professional Training (CPT) in accordance with POST recommendations. Typing Requirement: Demonstrated ability to type accurately at a net speed of not less than 40 words per minute is required prior to appointment. Failure to demonstrate and maintain this ability may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement. Criminal History and Background Checks: The County may access criminal history information on candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment for this class consistent with the provisions of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82-602, Personnel Policies, and applicable federal and state laws. The County shall not consider for employment any candidate who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that relates to or impacts the candidateu2019s ability to perform the job duties of this class unless it is determined that mitigating circumstances exist. For purposes of accessing criminal history information, the candidate will be fingerprinted. A subsequent arrest notification may be obtained. The County may also conduct a background check on the candidate prior to appointment to a position within this class. The background check may include personal and professional reference checks, credit history checks where authorized by Labor Code section 1024.5, Social Security Number verification, professional license/registration verification, military service information and driving history. Information obtained in the course of this background check will be considered by the appointing authority in the selection process. In obtaining such information, the County will comply with applicable consent and disclosure practices in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the California Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act. Security Clearance: In addition to the Sacramento County Criminal History and Background check, prior to appointment in this class candidates will need to: 1. Pass a security clearance investigation conducted by the Sacramento County Sheriffu2019s Office. 2. Successfully pass a medical examination and psychological screening. License Requirement: A valid California Driver License, Class C or higher, shall be required at the time of appointment. Failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate California Driver License, or comply with state and federal requirements for utilization, may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement. Physical Requirements: u2022 Positions in this class require the incumbents to be able to: u2022 Visually distinguish between red, green, and orange colors. u2022 Have sufficient hearing to understand audio communication over a telephone or two-way radio. u2022 Operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of hands and feet simultaneously. u2022 Verbally communicate to exchange information over standard telephone and two-way radio equipment. Working Conditions: u2022 Positions in this class require the incumbents to: u2022 Work in emotionally stressful situations, u2022 Work various shifts to provide 24-7 coverage, including nights, weekends and holidays. u2022 On a continuous basis, answer a high volume of telephone calls in a call-center environment. u2022 Wear and maintain a designated Sheriffu2019s uniform.
