SUMMARY SHRMu2019s paid internship program enables students to participate in valuable real-world work experience through various tailored assignments within their areas of interest and fields of study. Students will be tasked with different team-specific projects, and tasks, and participate in professional development projects and events to prepare them for their future careers. The Government Affairs Intern will support the Government Affairs team in researching legislative issues, monitoring policy developments, and assisting in advocacy efforts. This internship offers exposure to various aspects of government relations, providing a valuable learning experience in navigating regulatory environments and engaging with policymakers This is a paid internship starting at $23.00/Hour. This is a 10-week, summer internship from June 2, 2026 - August 6, 2026. Responsibilities: + Research legislative and regulatory matters impacting the workplace and prepare concise reports and summaries. + Monitor and analyze proposed policies, regulations, and legislative developments relevant to the organization's objectives. + Assist in preparing materials for meetings, hearings, and advocacy efforts, including briefs, presentations, and position papers. + Collaborate with team members to develop advocacy strategies and initiatives. + Support the tracking and organization of key contacts, stakeholders, and policymakers. + Participate in team meetings, discussions, and brainstorming sessions related to government affairs activities. + Provide administrative support as needed, including organizing documents, managing databases, and handling correspondence. Education & Experience Requirements + Preferred field of studies: pursuing a Masteru2019s Degree or pursuing a Juris Doctor degreein Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field. + 0-3 years of relevant work experience Knowledge, Skills & Abilities + Strong interest in government affairs, public policy, and advocacy. + Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills with attention to detail. + Prior experience or coursework in government relations, legislative affairs, or related fields is a plus. + Understanding of the legislative process and governmental structures is beneficial. + Strong problem-solving analytical skills + Strong skills in business written and verbal communication skills + High levels of commitment and initiative + Ability to successfully work in a team + Ability and willingness to follow directions + Possess a professional demeanor and interpersonal skills + Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment + Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook + Ability to effectively leverage artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and improve overall work quality. Additional Notes Physical Requirements This position operates in a typical office environment and requires the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements may include: + Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. + Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, handling documents, and using office equipment. + Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching. + Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds as needed. + Clear verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues and stakeholders. Work environment Hybrid Schedule (3 Days In-Office / 2 Days Remote): This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with Tuesday through Thursday in office and Monday and Friday remote. Employees must be available during standard business hours, with core hours beginning between 8:00u20139:00 a.m. and concluding between 5:00u20136:00 p.m. local time.
