Job Description

Reporting to the Controller and serving as a key member of OMEPs finance and administrative team, the Staff Accountant works full time to assist the Finance department with a variety of professional accounting duties. The position requires knowledge of basic accounting, office administration contract management, and grants compliance is a plus. The Staff Accountant must be highly organized, attentive to detail and accuracy, and possess exceptional interpersonal skills. This position requires excellent computer skills, self-initiation and self-direction, time management skills, and a demonstrated passion for OMEPs mission. Key Responsibilities General Accounting SupportAssist with recording financial transactions in the general ledger in accordance with GAAPHelp prepare and post journal entries under supervisionSupport month-end and year-end close activitiesMaintain organized and accurate financial recordsGrant & Fund Accounting SupportAssist with tracking grant revenues and expenses by funding source and programHelp ensure expenses are coded correctly and supported by required documentationSupport preparation of basic grant financial reports and reimbursement requestsMonitor grant budgets and flag potential issues to senior accounting staffAccounts Payable & ReceivableProcess vendor invoices and expense reimbursementsAssist with accounts receivable, including grant billings and depositsHelp reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accountsPayroll & BenefitsMaintain employee dataEnsure leave and project hours have been recorded accurately and timelyEnsure that staff are paid on time and accuratelyAssist with monthly payroll allocation to general ledgerEnsure benefit providers are paid timelyEnsure employee deductions are accurateReporting & Administrative SupportPrepare basic financial reports and schedulesAssist with audit preparation and information requestsSupport data entry and spreadsheet maintenanceLearning & CollaborationWork closely with senior accounting staff to learn non-profit and grant accounting practicesCollaborate with program staff to understand funding requirementsParticipate in improving accounting processes and internal controls Driven by Continuous ImprovementQualificationsBachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or related field1-3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experienceBasic understanding of accounting principlesStrong attention to detail and willingness to learnBasic Excel skills and comfort working with spreadsheetsAbility to follow procedures and meet deadlinesPreferred (But Not Required)Internship or coursework related to non-profit accounting or grantsFamiliarity with accounting software (Salesforce and Accounting Seed)Interest in mission-driven or community-based workWhy This Role?Hands-on training and mentorshipExposure to grant and non-profit accountingOpportunity for growth within the finance teamGreat team to collaborate withCompensation & BenefitsAnnual SalaryIncentive plan based on performance metricsSubstantial health/dental/vision/life/disability insuranceHSA and FSA account options6% employer match on 401kPaid holidays and generous vacation and sick timeCompany-funded standard home office setupHybrid environment with 1-2 days per week in officeAbout OMEPIncorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in 2001, the Oregon Manufacturing Extension Partnership (OMEP) provides high performance business and technical assistance to Oregons small to mid-sized manufacturers.
