Custodian

Job Summary:Clean and maintain University assets per the standard set forth by the Manager of Custodial Operations. This position is full-time, 12-months, reporting to the Manager of Custodial Operations. There are three full-time openings available as follows:1. Saturday through Wednesday, First Shift - the hours are from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.2. Monday through Friday, First Shift - the hours are from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.3. Monday through Friday, Third Shift - the hours are from 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour(plus $1.00 shift differential for third shift)Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Disposal of trashMaintain cleanliness of assigned areasSweep, mop, and buff floorsMaintain aesthetic appearance of entrance to buildingMake sure custodial closet is fully stocked and organizedStrip and wax floors as neededReport facility issues to Facility Maintenance OfficePrep resident halls for each semesterOther duties and responsibilities as assigned Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructionsAbility to interact with customers (students, faculty, administration), co-workers and supervisors in a positive and helpful mannerDemonstrated aptitude for successful completion of assigned tasksEnglish proficiency is required Education and Experience:High School Diploma with 1 year direct and 2 years indirect experiencePrior floor care experience Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Valid state driver’s licenseMust be in sound physical conditionStockroom or warehouseHigh noise environmentHigh dust, dirt, and grease environmentRequires extensive safety trainingExposure to moving machineryAlternative work schedule may be requiredExposure to chemicalsRequires protective devicesOccasional lifting 25-50 lbs.Typically standing or walkingTypically bending, crouching, stooping Special Message to Applicants: Selected applicants will be responsible for providing the University with clearances appropriate to the position. These clearances include the Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check. Additionally, upon an acceptance of an offer of employment, this position will require a Motor Vehicle Report and a Physical Lift Examination.All employment is provisional for 90 days. During this 90-day period, custodians are not eligible for benefits and cannot join the Teamsters Union.
