Under the general supervision of the Dentist, the Dental Hygienist provides licensed dental hygiene services, including oral prophylaxis, in a specialized dental oncology setting. This role is centered on compassionate, patient-focused care and offers the opportunity to meaningfully improve comfort, oral health, and quality of life for individuals undergoing cancer treatment-many of whom face significant barriers to accessing dental care.Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Perform oral prophylaxis and other licensed dental hygiene proceduresObtain applicable dental radiographs using appropriate radiographic equipmentAssist the dentist during patient examinationsApply topical fluorides and/or local anesthetics as permitted by licensureEducate patients on oral hygiene, preventive dentistry, and overall oral healthClean teeth using appropriate instruments and materialsOperate and maintain dental and radiographic equipment; report malfunctions or service needs promptlyMaintain a safe, clean, and organized clinical environmentAssist the dentist and other dental staff as needed to support patient careThis position is ideal for a compassionate, detail-oriented dental hygienist who is interested in working with oncology patients and contributing to comprehensive, patient-centered care. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High school education of equivalent. 2 years college.Registered dental hygienist from an accredited school, licensed by the State of Georgia.Two years experience preferred, advanced training desirable.Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association is required.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required.
