ABOUT THE POSITIONBridge Inspection Practice Leader | Hybrid | Raleigh, NC | Charlotte, NCVHB is offering an exciting opportunity for a Bridge Inspection Practice Leader to oversee and grow our bridge inspection practice within our Structures team in North Carolina. With our group rapidly expanding, this role will also provide a unique opportunity to work on bridge design and load ratings in support of workload if desired. Tasks would include supervising the development of field notes, assembling record documents, and generating inspection reports upon completion of the inspection. Work will also include communicating with clients, state and government agencies, and abutters to coordinate access and general inspection activities. The work would involve a mix of office and fieldwork. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, leadership skills, and the ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment. The position includes significant opportunities for personal and professional development and growth within VHB’s emerging bridge inspection practice.ResponsibilitiesManage and lead atalented group of bridge inspectors.Manage the inspection team's quality, procedures, workload, and trainingStrategize with senior leadership on the team's development and growthPrepare proposals for new inspection contracts with a talented marketing team.Planning and performing structural inspections of highway and railroad bridges, culverts, ancillary structures, and buildings in accordance with NHI and AREMA StandardsPerforming quality reviews of bridge inspection report narratives, sketches, photos, and basic repair and rehabilitation cost estimates.Managing inspection equipment with asufficient budget to properly outfit inspection teams with the latest gearMentoring younger staffParticipate in the growth of the inspection practice across the VHB footprintSkills & AbilitiesAbility to work at heights, in confined spaces and adjacent to live highway and railroad trafficExperience with NCDOT, AASHTO, and AREMA inspection requirementsExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsProactive and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and qualityStrong organizational and time management skillsEnthusiasm to learn, seek out opportunities, and take responsibilityAbility and willingness to work overnight when required for specific access requirements on roadways and on RR tracks.Experience with vertical lift equipment, under-bridge inspection trucks, and rope access credentials are a plusQualifications11+ years of bridge inspection experience requiredPE license preferred, or equivalent professional experience.B.S. in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred)NHI/FHWA Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course requiredNHI/FHWA Fracture Critical (NSTM) course preferredExperience with NCDOT WIGGINS softwareValid driver's licenseWe are VHB!We’re an inspired and innovative team of engineers, scientists, planners, and designers who partner with clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries, as well as federal, state, and local governments.
