Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Responsibilities Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following functions: The Primary care physician's actual clinical activity shall be a function of the VAMC Executive Committee of the Medical Staff clinical privileging process and the overall demand of emergency services. Provides direct hands-on patient care. Provide comprehensive Women's Health and Primary Care for women Veterans of all ages. Assesses patients for acute illnesses and determine whether patients need to be admitted to the hospital or managed in the outpatient setting. Manages chronic disease. Provides clinical guidance over the phone, by Secure Messaging and through the mail. Ensues accurate documentation of medical assessments and observations. May be responsible for supervising and teaching medical residents and students. May be required to oversee mid-level practitioners, such as nurse practitioners or physician assistants. Establishes inter-personal and intra-departmental relationships to enhance optimal patient care. Demonstrates competent and effective oral and written communication. Provides appropriate patient/family member teaching and education. Evaluates effectiveness and level of patient/family member understanding of teaching provider. Utilizes the CPRS computer software/program for entering and signing of medical orders such as laboratory studies, radiological studies, etc. (Soon the VA will switch over to Oracle System) Maintains familiarity and compliance with hospital infection prevention policies and procedures, ensuring the use of antiseptic methods of all in-clinic procedures. Ensures a safe work environment and employee safe work habits. Participates in FPPE/OPPE evaluation of colleagues at standard intervals. When tele-working remotely, provider agrees to come to provide coverage on site at clinic or CBOC is there is an urgent coverage gap that otherwise is not able to be remedied. Agrees to deliver lab and test results within required time. Agrees to complete required and mandatory TMS online trainings in a timely fashion. Agrees to enroll in and complete the Women's Health Mini-residency and all other required related educational trainings. Agrees to perform Women's health related routine health maintenance exams, including Pap smears on all veterans who have cervices per standard of care recommendations, breast exams, referral for mammogram, breast ultrasound and surgical referrals as needed in a timely fashion. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
