Summary This Registered Nurse (Nurse Manager) position is located within the Nursing, Geriatrics and Extended Care service line at the VA Brockton Campus, MA. This position is full-time at 40-hours per week. Responsibilities The Nurse Manager (NM) is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed. The NM is responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance. The NM functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Leads and organizes delivery of care to ensure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice; Applies advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting; Applies nursing expertise to lead improvement, with demonstrated outcomes, beyond the immediate practice setting; Leads initiatives to improve the Veteran experience i.e., care coordination, timeliness to resolve issues, negative trends, or environment of care concerns, beyond the immediate practice setting; Demonstrates leadership in patient advocacy by protecting the health, safety, and rights of patient population groups beyond the immediate practice setting; Leads staff to identify, analyze and address ethical issues that impact patients, caregivers and staff beyond the immediate practice setting; Models' high reliability principles and I CARE values to improve the consistency of care delivery and patient outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting; Demonstrates positive, effective communication skills, professional behaviors and leadership that promotes a commitment to excellence, improving nursing practice, and fostering collaboration among customers beyond the immediate practice setting; Makes sustained contributions to healthcare by actively participating in healthcare facility or service-level committees or councils, establishing active relationships and demonstrating leadership in improving care beyond the immediate practice setting; Leads with emotional and social intelligence. Demonstrates resilience in coping with challenging and stressful situations, to assist others in increasing their self determination and competence beyond the immediate practice setting; Excels in making appropriate judgements. Demonstrates integrity in the workplace and facilitates formal and informal mentoring opportunities to develop current and future leaders beyond the immediate practice setting; Initiates and leads interdisciplinary teams that utilize critical thinking to improve nursing practice beyond the immediate practice setting; Other duties as assigned.
