Select your correct bargaining unit FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN A REJECTED BID APPLICATION Under general supervision, supervises a crew engaged in installing, repairing, and testing aerial and underground electrical wire, fixtures, and related equipment, and performs related duties as required ESSENTIAL DUTIES u00b7 Prepares work plans detailing job requirements, manpower, and materials used and man hours needed to complete jobs u00b7 Makes daily work assignments, ensuring the efficient use of manpower and resources u00b7 Inspects work in progress to ensure adherence to installation plans, departmental standards, and safety procedures u00b7 Prepares purchase requisitions to order materials and equipment needed by staff to complete jobs u00b7 Directs the installation of wires, fiber optic cables, and conduit pipes to power sources u00b7 Supervises the assembly and installation of electrical fixtures (e.g., light poles, lamps, traffic signal heads, surveillance cameras) u00b7 Assists in coordinating electrical wiring work with other trades foremen and private contractors to ensure timely completion of work u00b7 Authorizes completed work ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality standards u00b7 Trains staff on operational and safety procedures u00b7 Maintains records and prepares work activity reports u00b7 Participates in installing and connecting electrical lines, fiber optics, and cables to power sources _Additional duties may be required for this position_ Location: 1345 W. Madison Chicago, IL 60607 Days: Varies, 5 days per week 8 hours THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training, and Experience u00b7 Successful completion of a US Department of Labor registered lineman apprenticeship training program and journeyman status, plus two years of journey-level lineman and/or as an electrical power line or telecommunications line installer and repairer work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications u00b7 A valid State of Illinois driveru2019s license is required u00b7 Must have the permanent use of an automobile that is properly insured, including a clause specifically insuring the City of Chicago from accident liability Working Conditions u00b7 Exposure to outdoor weather conditions u00b7 Exposure to fumes or dust u00b7 Exposure to hazardous conditions (e.g., traffic, heavy machinery) u00b7 Work performed above or below ground level u00b7 Work performed using scaffolds and ladders u00b7 Work performed at great heights with the use of safety belts Physical Requirements u00b7 Substantial lifting (up to 50 pounds) is required u00b7 Ability to stand and walk for extended or continuous periods of time u00b7 Ability to quickly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with one's body, arms, and/or legs u00b7 Ability to move one's hands and arms to grasp or manipulate objects u00b7 Ability to climb staircases, ladders, and/or step stools u00b7 Ability to operate applicable hand tools, power tools, and equipment u00b7 Ability to tolerate heights while working SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires applicants to successfully PASS a written test / skills assessment test IN ORDER TO BE interviewed. The cut score of the test is subject to change based on standard statistical analysis of test results.
