What work would I do?As an Automotive Technician - Heavy Shop or Fire Equipment Specialist (FES) I, youll spend your day inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a range of vehicles and equipment from heavy trucks and tractors to fire apparatus and ambulances. Your work includes preventive maintenance like tune-ups, brake checks, and tire repairs, as well as diagnosing and fixing complex issues with engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and computerized controls. In advanced roles, youll overhaul major components, design modifications, and mentor other technicians. Youll also test-drive vehicles, perform state inspections, and keep detailed service records to ensure reliability and safety. For Fire Equipment Specialists, the focus is on keeping emergency vehicles fully operational and ready to respond.How much money can I make?There are 4 levels of Automotive Technician - Heavy, each with its own salary range. The targeted hiring range for each role is based on qualifications, experience, and market considerations is included in the job listing. I: $55,049 - $90,831 $5,000 - Annual Stipend Heavy Shop Assignment $1,500 - Annual Tool AllowanceWhat are the qualifications for this position?Each role in Auto Tech - Heavy shop is distinguished by the complexity of work performed, qualifications and years of experience. A high school diploma is required for all levels.Experience requirements vary by role:Auto Tech I:1-2 years of automotive mechanic experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Auto Tech II:3 - 5 years of automotive mechanic experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Auto Tech, Master:4 years of journeyman level automotive mechanic experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.,Auto Tech - FES:4 years of journeyman level automotive mechanic experience, or any combination of education and experience.
