Metro Transit is one of the country's largest transit systems, employs more than 3,000 people, and provides ridership through an integrated network of buses, light rail and commuter trains, as well as resources for those who carpool, vanpool, walk or bike in the Twin Cities. Metro Transit's Engineering Department is responsible for the development and construction of Metro Transit's public and support facilities. In the public facility area, they plan, design, and construct improvements to the rail and bus network including, for example, bus and rail stations, maintenance facilities, park and rides, and other passenger facilities. Design and Engineering, Structures has built and maintains over 150 structures - LRT, BRT, PED, and Freight Bridges & Tunnels and over 23 miles of retaining walls. How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region: TheEngineer/SeniorEngineer applies professional skill and knowledge to engineering projects and systems performance monitoring and optimization. This position coordinates & plans structure inspections, repairs, and annual cleaning. They apply skills and knowledge to assess maintenance needs & establish priority of repairs & cleaning. They work collaboratively with structural engineers, inspectors, designers, and project partners to review and plan maintenance work. Incumbents are assigned more advanced project management or plan technical review responsibilities. Incumbents typically take on responsibility in planning, scheduling, conducting or coordinating detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope. They perform work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, new treatment requirements and difficult project coordination requirements. They provide work direction to entry-level engineers and related technical staff. Candidate's permanent residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin. This position is currently based out of our Heywood facility in Minneapolis. The incumbent will be required to work some nights and weekends. During the summer, the majority of the time is spent out in the field. During the winter, the incumbent will either work in office or from home. What you would do in this job + Serves as the project manager for annual maintenance projects. + Select consultants, negotiate contracts, change orders and amendments; preparing and monitoring project schedules; monitoring, reviewing and coordinating project design; evaluating contractor requests for extra work, monitoring contractor's work and enforcing terms of the contract. + Assists structures inspection teams and other construction projects in the field. + Research for bridge information, file maintenance and GIS input. + Prepare cost estimates to determine project feasibility. + Prepare and review engineering studies, feasibility reports, engineer evaluations, technical memoranda, reports etc. to develop alternative solutions and answer
