Description This position is located in Atlanta, GA (for the right candidate, the position could also be located in Chattanooga, Charlotte, or Nashville) and is responsible for overall managerial direction and leadership of a Civil/Structural Department in the Southeast Region, working directly with the T&D Substation Business Line Manager. Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties as assigned by the T&D Substation Business Line Manager and other senior management: u2013 growing it in a profitable manner through servant leadership based on the Burns & McDonnell core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and overall outstanding service. Specific areas of responsibility include the following (with others assigned by senior management): + Advocating for safety within the group. + Advocating for quality and ensuring that the corporate and T&D quality plans and initiatives are implemented, including coordinating with the appropriate teams to assign quality control reviewers. + Training, developing, mentoring, and career development of the staff; coordinating training needs and requirements with the SER T&D Substation Business Line Manager. + Recruiting top talent, as well as the engagement and retention of staff, and guiding staff on career development. + Coordinating work for the Department, including making assignments and reviewing performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff. Supporting overall Regional Office development and resource coordination between GPs. + Identifying project opportunities early and facilitating go/no-go decisions in cooperation with SER leadership and T&D practice leadership. + Collaborating with Civil/Structural Managers in other Regional Offices and WHQ; represent the Southeast Region in GP-wide civil/structural meetings. + Interpreting policies, procedures, and goals of the organization to staff. + Serving as project manager for key technical projects where required, and where new business is being developed. + Serving as the technical advisor, providing senior-level input and evaluation on civil/structural engineering projects. + Assisting in the development and execution of the Southeast Region T&D Business Plan. + Facilitating profitable and sound growth of the Department; responsible for the attainment of sales, revenue, and net-profit goals for the Department, including meeting billability and utilization goals. + Monitor progress on projects and provide input into areas of concern and direction or redirection to enhance achievement of project schedules, productivity goals, budgets, and quality. + Preparing and monitoring the Department budget and expenditure of funds for staffing hours, supplies, training, and equipment. + Supporting Human Resources on educational partnerships and internship programs. + Supporting or leading portions of department meetings; organizing and leading Department meetings. + Advancing and developing Department tools and workflows to increase the efficiency of designs, specification development, and project execution. + Recommending changes in the basic structure and organization of the Department to ensure the effective fulfillment of objectives assigned to it. + Organizing, leading and conducting the annual performance appraisal process for Department staff. + Supporting diversity initiatives. Qualifications + Bacheloru2019s degree in engineering, architecture, environmental science, construction management or related field from an accredited program required. + 5 years of related professional experience required. + This position requires technical ability in civil/structural engineering design for electrical substations, with Civil Site Design as a highly desirable background. + Excellent written & verbal communication skills. + Strong analytical & problem-solving skills. + Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered. + Previous consulting experience preferred. + Previous leadership and/or management experience preferred. + Professional Engineering Licensed Preferred (or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment) This job posting will remain open a minimum of 72 hours and on an ongoing basis until filled.
