Description Burns & McDonnellu2019s Mid-Atlantic Region has a need for a Staff Cultural Resources Specialist to conduct project studies and surveys, construction monitoring, archaeological excavation and associated fieldwork on a variety of projects. Primary responsibilities will be to plan, coordinate, communicate and facilitate activities for the cultural resources components of projects from concept through completion. Successful Staff Cultural Resources Specialists collaborate and coordinate with internal and external clients. They are also responsible for initiating or assisting in proposal development and contract negotiations and coordinating project planning. Project planning includes scoping, budgeting, maintaining schedules, communicating and managing deadlines, and establishing and performing critical project objectives. This position supports the growth of the Environmental Services practice based upon Burns & McDonnell's core values of safety, client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity and overall outstanding service. Specific areas of responsibility may include the following: + Serving as Principal Investigator for archeological survey, testing, and data recovery projects. + Conducting desktop reviews and coordinating with other general practices to identify permits and constraints for large infrastructure projects. + Acquiring necessary permits to complete project work. + Supervising field efforts and preparing technical reports. + Adhering to Burns & McDonnell's Quality Control and Safety programs + This position includes field assessments, report preparation, and associated travel. + The staff cultural resources specialist will also provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members. + Other duties as assigned. Qualifications + Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited program required. + Masteru2019s Degree or PhD in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field is highly preferred. + Meets the Secretary of the Interioru2019s professional qualifications standards in archaeology. + Minimum 4 years of related professional experience conducting cultural field investigations, surveys and project studies; archaeological excavation, artifact identification and other associated fieldwork, such as construction monitoring. + Experience leading archaeological field survey crews. + Knowledge of federal and state regulations relating to historic preservation such as Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. + Knowledge of archaeological and anthropological methods and practices used in cultural resource management in the United States. + Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills, specifically for preparation of technical reports and proposal writing. + High level of attention to detail. + Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member. + Ability to adjust to rapidly changing work environments and research approaches. + Ability to operate various types of GPS equipment. + Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, SharePoint). + Willingness to travel (50% travel expected). + Valid driver's license. In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy. Preferred Qualifications + Experience in the Mid-Atlantic states, particularly Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland. + Experience in historical archaeology and architectural history. + Experience in Tribal engagement and coordination practices. + Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro). + Prior consulting experience.
