Description As an Operations Technician in the Transport NOC you will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the transport network. This role opens trouble tickets and works the repair of network equipment/facilities with field operations, tech support and other work groups. Knows equipment specific maintenance procedures and can assist field ops in card swaps and equipment restoration. Basic knowledge of Optical/DWDM transport network topology and/or digital loop carrier (DLC). Able to follow Methods of Procedure (MOPs), anticipate problems, and take corrective action proactively. Has thorough understanding of telecom, network topology and repair procedures. Works with minimal supervision in NOC environment, sometimes for extended hours and is available to work all hours in a 24x7 environment. Communicates effectively with peers, other NOC centers, off-net providers and customers. As an Operations Technician, your duties and responsibilities will include: u2022 Maintain excellent acknowledgement and response time to alarms and customer calls. u2022 Provide quality documentation of network failures and maintenance activity. u2022 Establish factual data to allow management and vendors to understand the problem and prevent reoccurrence. u2022 Analyze, diagnose, sectionalize, isolate, and resolve trouble situations. u2022 Manage and correlate multiple trouble reports. u2022 Communicate with internal customers and others in a repair situation. u2022 Provide Tier I support in platforms supported u2022 Interact with all Tier repair teams. Initiate internal/external escalations, as necessary. u2022 Provide follow up and closure of assigned trouble tickets u2022 Works in 24x7 environment and may need to work evenings, nights and/or weekends and holidays Additional Skills & Qualifications WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE u2022 Knowledge and experience in network architecture of Transport network services and systems u2022 Basic knowledge of SONET and DWDM/ROADM technology platforms, including lower level applications and associated technologies and configurations u2022 Knowledge of Element Management Systems (EMS), Operational Support Systems (OSS), network inventory, alarming, provisioning and other support systems is a plus u2022 Proficiency in interpersonal communications, particularly with up and downstream personnel at all company levels u2022 Effective oral, written and presentation skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office program suite BONUS POINTS FOR: u2022 Industry certifications (Business Management or Technical Certification) u2022 Awards for operational or customer service excellence u2022 Experience working as a technical support specialist u2022 Experience working in a Network Operations Center Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Charlotte, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
