This role helps ensure officers and staff have the equipment they need to effectively serve the community. Responsibilities include performing basic equipment maintenance and operating a variety of police vehicles in support of department needs. This position plays a key role in keeping equipment organized, functional, and ready for use. Essential Functions + Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. Is capable of performing all duties of an Equipment Specialist I and II, and provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group, as needed. + Serves as a liaison for administrative details related to department equipment and inventory, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, including maintenance teams, claims administrators, vendors and other parties to ensure accurate tracking, compliance and resolution of issues. + Assists with licensing and registration for department equipment, including ordering, transferring and canceling tags or registrations. Assists with compliance for specialized or out-of-state equipment and ensures all required tests and notices are processed. + Maintains and verifies inventory data in the management system, ensuring accuracy for billing, maintenance schedules and reporting. Provides statistics for inventory replacement, budgeting and other operational needs. + Assists in equipment readiness, ensuring proper documentation, insurance and routine maintenance. Performs basic maintenance tasks such as battery charging, component replacements, cleaning and decontamination relating to hazardous chemicals and body fluids and restocking of emergency or operational supplies. + Assists with fuel credit card operations and similar resource systems, troubleshooting issues, updating records for transferred or retired equipment and training personnel on correct usage and procedures. + Conducts research, coordinates availability of equipment for IT or other operational projects and provides information regarding project-related inventory needs. + Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training + High school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in inventory management, administrative support, procurement experience, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Knowledge of: + Warehouse budget development and maintenance. + Principles and practices of purchasing and bid specification development. + Supply management and inventory control. + Efficient and convenient methods of receipt, storage and issuance of inventory. + Software used in word processing and database management. + Bookkeeping, budgeting and accounting. Ability to: + Read and interpret rules, regulations, and a variety of information related to purchasing + Coordinate activities with a variety of individuals and agencies + Prepare a variety of bid specifications + Clean and repair contaminated and damaged equipment + Use problem-solving skills and present solutions to administrators + Maintain confidentiality with sensitive documents or information + Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance + Perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor, and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation. + Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record. Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training + Five years of inventory management and procurement experience. Licensing And Other Requirements + Valid state-issued driver's license. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals.
