JOB REQUIREMENTS: Help keep our community's drinking water safe andreliable We're looking for a skilled Filter Plant Operator to join ourteam Under general supervision, operates filtration and ozonation plantand equipment to ensure an adequate supply of safe drinking water. Thisposition is front line to ensure delivery of safe water. Examples ofDuties: Operator -Monitors SCADA control systems for the filtration andozonation plants and distribution system; makes proper adjustments;determines dosages. -Adjusts chemical doses in response to changingwater quality parameters. -Maintains water system hydraulics to ensureappropriate water quantity, supply, and pressure. -Keeps valves, gauges,and mechanical apparatus in working order. -Performs maintenance dutiesof moderate difficulty. -Assists technician with various tasks.-Performs lab tests using proper analytical techniques. -Manuallyoperates plant equipment in the event the filtration and ozonationplants' SCADA control systems fail. -Utilizes computer and relatedsoftware to perform job duties. General -Maintains clean and orderlypremises. -Maintains safe work areas and equipment. -Conducts toursthrough filtration and ozonation plants. -Maintains records; createreports. -Receives chemical deliveries. -Performs related work asrequired. OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: -Three years'operating experience in a surface water treatment facility. -Validdriver's license and good driving record. A combination of equivalentexperience and/or education may be considered. Knowledge, Skills &Abilities: -Considerable knowledge of the chemicals used in watertreatment. Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safe workpractices. -Considerable knowledge of motors, valves, gauges, and otherwater treatment and pumping equipment operations. Good knowledge ofpreventative maintenance, general maintenance work, and minor repairs toequipment. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local waterregulations. -Considerable skill in operating a variety of filtration,ozone and pumping equipment. Considerable skill in calibrating waterquality analyzers. -Working skill in troubleshooting control loops andequipment and in making mechanical repairs. Considerable skill inoperating SCADA control systems. -Ability to follow oral and writteninstructions. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and inwriting. Ability to proficiently utilize a computer and the requiredsoftware. Ability to establish and maintain effective workingrelationships with the staff and the public. Ability to make accurateobservations and reports. Ability to make complex mathematicalcalculations. Ability to use time effectively and efficiently and isalert and responsible to anticipate problems. Ability to assistmaintenance staff in identifying and repairing major mechanicalproblems. Ability to work the required hours of the position, includingavailability to work extended hours and after-hours call-ins as needed.-May be required to demonstrate minimum competency by successfullypassing approved tests. Physical Requirements Ability to perform thefollowing activities: -Lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds. -Occasionallifting/carrying up to 50 pounds -Frequent standing, walking, sitting,crawling, reaching and stooping. -Ability to focus on projects for along period of time. -Ability to work in inclement conditions.-Occasional climbing of ladders. -Occasional working in confined spaces.The above is not to be construed as an exhaustive statement of duties,responsibilities or requirements.
