Our client is seeking an experienced Assistant Chief Engineer to support building operations at a luxury high‑rise residential cooperative in Washington, DC. This role works closely with the Chief Engineer to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all building systems while delivering exceptional service to residents.This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on engineering professional with strong central plant HVAC experience and a customer-focused approach.Assist with the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systemsSupport preventive maintenance programs to ensure optimal system performanceMonitor and maintain central plant equipment, including:Chillers, cooling towers, boilers, pumps, and heat pumpsAir handling units and water treatment systemsBuilding automation systems (BAS)Respond promptly and professionally to resident service requestsCoordinate and oversee vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and maintenanceAssist with capital improvement projects and system upgradesMonitor contractor and renovation work for safety and complianceMaintain accurate logs, work orders, PM schedules, and equipment documentationParticipate in an on-call rotation and respond to building emergenciesPerform general maintenance, including minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work10+ years of building engineering or maintenance experience in a luxury residential, condominium, cooperative, or hotel environmentHigh-rise building experience with central plant systems strongly preferredHands-on experience with chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, and BASExperience coordinating vendors, contractors, and capital projectsStrong technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and attention to detailExcellent communication skills and a professional, service-oriented demeanorAbility to climb, kneel, and work around mechanical equipmentMust be able to lift up to 75 lbs independently and move heavier items with assistanceRequired CertificationsEPA Universal CFC Certification (Section 608) - RequiredDC 6th Class Engineer License or Maryland 3rd Class Engineer License - PreferredAll certifications must be current and in good standingCompensation and BenefitsSalary range of $87K-$97K, based on experience, qualifications, and certifications.
