Animal Care Technician

Job Title: Animal Care Technician book immediately here Job Description As an Animal Care Technician, you will apply your technical knowledge to perform daily observations to check the health status of animals and report any changes in their environment or condition. You will be responsible for environmental monitoring and associated documentation, as well as changing and cleaning cages, equipment, water bottles, and food. Your role will also include unpacking and housing animals upon their arrival, maintaining janitorial cleanliness of facility rooms, and ensuring supplies are stocked. You will oversee preventative maintenance of animal facility equipment and supplies, perform monthly sanitization of equipment and the facility, and maintain accurate records of animals, supplies, and equipment. Responsibilities + Perform daily observations to assess animals' health status and report changes. + Conduct environmental monitoring and documentation. + Clean and change cages, equipment, water bottles, and food. + Unpack and house animals upon arrival. + Maintain janitorial cleanliness of facility rooms and restock supplies. + Conduct preventative maintenance of animal facility equipment and supplies. + Perform monthly sanitization of equipment and the facility. + Maintain accurate records of animals, supplies, and equipment. Essential Skills + Knowledge in cleaning and sterilization. + Experience in animal husbandry. + Experience working with mice. + Proficiency in cage washing and husbandry. Additional Skills & Qualifications + High School Diploma or equivalent technical certificate. + Pursuit of Purina and/or AALAS certification at the ALAT level is desired. + Minimum of one year experience in animal care is helpful. Work Environment You will be working in several vivariums on campus, each with its individual team, requiring a team-player mentality and adherence to standard operating procedures and lab safety. The position involves working with 10-12 others on a first shift, with the possibility of starting as early as 5 am. Flexibility to work overtime, as well as weekends and holidays, is required, as this position is deemed essential personnel. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Tarrytown, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
