This is an in-person position requiring shift work About the this unit: The Safety Department exists to maintain the safety and security of the CMHHIFL campus. Duties of the Safety Department include maintaining a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors, providing assistance to the clinical staff in the various types of patient treatment programs, assisting with the management of aggressive/assaultive individuals, and monitoring and evaluating the impact of applicable laws and regulations. The Safety Department staff follows accepted practices including policies and procedures. The department supports patient care and the safety of buildings, grounds, equipment, occupants, and internal physical systems. This work unit reports and resolves situations that pose a threat to life, health, or property. Job Assignment / Purpose of Position: To assist in provision of a safe environment in which patients of civil commitment may be transported to/from on-grounds and off-grounds appointments, hospital activities, and other meetings and/or required transportation needs by oversight of trained personnel. CSO Transportation staff will provide necessary movements to and from medical appointments, cafeteria treatment mall, clinical activities, court visitations, personal appointments of therapeutic needs, in partnership with appropriate additional hospital personnel/nursing/clinical staff as required. Visitation support will be provided as available. Job Duties: Transport of Patients/Escorting Patient(s) to Designated Activities/Appointments : + Coordinates patient movements to destinations. Patients may not want to walk in coordination with each other if in a larger group and require clear directions. The CSO I/Transport Officer will need to use verbal communication skills to support clear directives/patient understanding of movement required. + Determines the appropriate safety measure to utilize while a patient is in transport. + Determines appropriate transportation movements and schedules with Nursing Department staff, Clinical Staff as appropriate, and Safety Department supervisors. Visitation Support: + Evaluates/monitors visits for patient safety risk, while also respecting patient/visitor privacy. + Provides appropriate searches of items brought by family members to ensure compliance with Hospital policies and procedures. + Communicates effectively with Nursing Department staff and/or Clinical Staff to ensure visitations are therapeutically appropriate. Scheduling: + Regular communication with position Transportation Team supervisor, Safety Department supervisors and Nursing Department and/or Clinical Department personnel to ensure appropriate scheduling of on-site/off-site patient transports. + Development and utilization of transportation-related plans to ensure timely movement of patients to scheduled appointments and events. Crisis Management Response: + Determines which specific crisis intervention techniques to utilize when responding to the safety needs of patients and staff ensuring training and following hospital policies. Utilizes approved verbal intervention, de- escalation, and physical intervention techniques consistent with hospital policy, as well as applicable laws, rules, and standards. Other Duties as assigned: + Following transports, this position will ensure adequate patient searches are completed prior to the patient returning to the unit. Furthermore, in addition to searches and the work assignments listed above, the position will perform other duties as assigned.
