Primary Function of Organizational Unit The NCCU Department of Athleticsu2019 primary purpose is to provide leadership for an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program. The NCCU Department of Athletics places the highest priority on a quality academic and athletic experience as part of the overall education of student-athletes. The Department of Athletics seeks to strengthen the integration of the athletics program objectives with academic development objectives. Primary Purpose of Position This position is a full-time twelve-month appointment and is directly responsible for all aspects of the Womenu2019s Basketball program in accordance with NCAA, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, and NCCU rules and regulations. The Head Womenu2019s Basketball Coach will be responsible for facilitating the academic, athletic, and overall growth of every Womenu2019s Basketball student-athlete. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both orally and in writing) and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to read, understands, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the specified sports program. Knowledge of NCAA athletic recruitment methods and techniques. Experience in budget preparation and fiscal management. Ability to lead and guide Division I student-athletes in area of specialty. Knowledge of NCAA I regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques. Preferred: Strong knowledge of NCAA Graduation and Academic Progress Rate (APR) requirements. Network of contacts in primary recruiting areas. Minimum Education/Experience Bacheloru2019s Degree from accredited institution; Proven successful coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level. Experience in teaching basketball skills, recruiting and coaching. Preferred: Masteru2019s Degree from accredited institution. NCAA Division I Coaching Experience. Oversee the plan for season, including competitive schedule and practices, i.e., facilities, officials, practice schedule, supervise travel arrangement for away competition and strategize for subsequent contests. Manage significant budget and award scholarships. Function Administrative Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. Conceive, implement, and supervise strategies to recruit high-profile Division I athletes in the Basketball program through scouting, attending games, and home visits, in accordance with NCAA, MEAC and NCCU rules and regulations. Function Administrative Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate coaches, team manager, and other staff as assigned. In conjunction with strength staff, develop training and conditioning program; organize all practice sessions to enhance team performance. Function Public Service Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. Serve as ambassador for the Womenu2019s Basketball Program and the Universityu2019s Athletic Program through articulation of their missions, public speaking to promote football in the state, region, and nation, and communicate with media, alumni, parents, and friends of the University. Assist in the development of strategies to increase visibility and attendance at home and away events. Work with the athletics department to raise funds and develop other fundraising activities, camps and/or clinics to support the basketball program and the department of athletics. Participate in in-service programs for coaches and officials; keep current with literature on coaching practices, rules of sport; contribute and participate in professional organizations; serve on committees and attend clinics, conventions, and other meetings.
