Payroll Director

Description We are looking for a skilled and experienced Payroll Director to lead and manage payroll operations in Houston, Texas. This role requires a dedicated individual with strong attention to detail to oversee payroll processes for a diverse workforce, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across multiple states. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in payroll systems, team leadership, and regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement in operational practices. Responsibilities: u2022 Oversee the timely and accurate processing of payroll for salaried, hourly, tipped, seasonal, and union employees across multiple states. u2022 Lead and mentor payroll team members, fostering growth and achievement of departmental goals. u2022 Generate and analyze payroll reports to support executive leadership, local management, and various departments such as Human Resources, Benefits, and Accounting. u2022 Develop and implement procedures and controls to ensure proper payroll accounting and compliance with unclaimed property regulations. u2022 Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries and issues for internal departments, ensuring a high level of customer service. u2022 Coordinate payroll audits, including those for workers' compensation, regulatory agencies, and internal or external reviews. u2022 Continuously evaluate and enhance payroll processes, recommending and integrating new technologies and automation solutions. u2022 Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure accurate benefit deductions and employee record maintenance. u2022 Stay current on payroll regulations across the U.S. and Canada, ensuring compliance and advising management on necessary actions. u2022 Maintain confidentiality and security of payroll data and develop contingency plans for emergency payroll processing scenarios. Requirements u2022 Extensive experience managing full-cycle payroll operations, including multi-state and Canadian payroll. u2022 Certified Payroll detail oriented (CPP) designation preferred. u2022 Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to draft policies, procedures, and correspondence effectively. u2022 Proven ability to manage payroll for high-volume operations, including departments with over 20,000 employees. u2022 Expertise in handling union payroll processes and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. u2022 Advanced knowledge of payroll systems and software, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency. u2022 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of interacting with employees at all organizational levels. u2022 Demonstrated ability to adapt to complex payroll scenarios, including acquisitions, integrations, and dissolutions.
