The Product Testing Laboratory supports product and process qualification, quality control, and research and development by generating reliable,datadriven evidence that materials, designs, and manufacturing processes meet internal and customer requirements. The R&D Intern, will support handsontesting andstepbystepqualification of novel products, analyze test data using statistical methods, and gain experience with laboratory equipment while contributing technical insights to engineering and R&D teams.This summer internship is in person at our Farmingdale, Long Island office and is full-time, with up to 40 hours per week.Possible Projects:Orchestral Flat wireDataAssess wire flattening capabilities of currentmanufacturing process.Collect and analyze wire ribbon width data in-lineduringeach setup/run for consistency spool to spool and intra-spoolCollect andanlyzedimensional and tensile data fromincoming andfinished spools in the lab forcomparisonFretted Strings-TensileCollect and analyzetensile strength of cores and strings for D'Addario's vast library of string setsto create a databaseSet safety limitsfor string tension pro calculationsKey ResponsibilitiesProduct & Process QualificationAssistwithstepbystepqualification of new products, including development, execution, and documentation of test plans/design of experimentSupport testing of novel materials and products from prototypesConduct comparative testing against legacy, benchmark, or competitor products toidentifyperformance gaps, strengths, and opportunities for differentiationLaboratory Testing & EquipmentLearn andoperatelaboratory test equipment such as:Mechanical and tensile testing systemsSEM/EDS and DSC Materials setup and analysisVarious dimensional and mass measurement toolsMaterial corrosion resistance or durability test setupsFollow established test procedures and safety protocolsAssistwith calibration checks and basic lab organizationData Analysis & ReportingCollect, organize, and analyze test dataPerform statistical analysis from design of experiment or production test data over timeSupport preparation of test summaries, plots, and technical reports/presentations to support product development and R&Ddecisionmaking.Maintainaccuratetest records and traceable documentationCrossFunctionalSupportCollaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teamsSupport failure analysis and root cause investigationsParticipate in design brainstorms or test result discussions as appropriateKnowledge,Skillsand Abilities:Hasmultiple years of experience inmaterialsengineering or similarfieldsuch asmaterialstesting,mechanical testing, statistics, manufacturing.Isdedicated to pursuinganundergraduate Engineeringdegreeor similar field oftechnicalstudy.MinimumQualifications:Currentlypursuing aBachelor’s degree in Engineering(Materials, Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline preferred)Basic understanding of engineering measurements and data analysisStrong attention to detail and documentationEager to learn and do hands-on work in both laboratoryand manufacturing environments.Proficient in MS Office,particularlyExcel.
