Construction Inspector - Northern Neck Job Description As a Construction Inspector, you will be responsible for inspecting all phases of highway construction and maintenance projects under the supervision of advanced staff. Your role is to ensure construction quality in accordance with plans and specifications, thereby providing a quality transportation system for the traveling public. You will observe and document contractor production rates, schedule work and inspection phases, and communicate with contractors regarding project completion and compliance. Responsibilities + Inspect all phases of highway construction and maintenance projects. + Observe and document contractor's daily production rates. + Schedule work and inspection phases with contractor's superintendent and agency personnel. + Communicate with contractors regarding completion of project work, including identifying non-compliant work. + Take field measurements of pay items. + Review placement of and perform tests on construction materials. + Review lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using standard survey and field engineering equipment. + Oversee and enforce the installation of erosion/siltation controls and highways work zones and traffic control devices. + Recommend changes to construction plans to meet field conditions or provide project cost savings. + Maintain project records including daily diaries, materials notebooks, as-built plans, pay quantity records, and monthly estimates. Essential Skills + Construction inspection + Asphalt and concrete testing + Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Construction Inspector within roadway and pavement marking + Asphalt Field Level I & II Certification Additional Skills & Qualifications + VDOT Certifications + Soil and Aggregate Compaction - NICET LEVEL II + Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field - ACI Concrete Field Level I, or WACEL Concrete I, or NICET LEVEL II + Flagger Certification + GRIT (Guardrail Certification) Work Environment This position is located outdoors, supporting projects in the Northern Neck (Irvington-King George) for seasonal paving. The inspectors will have the opportunity to progress and get promoted to more positions as they develop their skills and aptitude. The company offers paid certifications and pay raises for certifications acquired. There is also a significant opportunity for overtime and a company vehicle may be provided, subject to compliance. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Warsaw, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
