Job Title: CNC Press Brake Operator Job Description The CNC Press Brake Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC press brake equipment to bend and form sheet metal components. This role requires hands-on machine operation, programming at the brake using the CNC controller, and ensuring parts meet dimensional, quality, and production standards. The position focuses on machine-level CNC brake programming and setup, not offline CAM or engineering-level programming. Responsibilities + Operate CNC press brake machines to bend and form sheet metal components. + Program CNC press brakes at the machine, including selecting and modifying existing CNC brake programs, entering bend sequences, angles, material thickness, and tooling data. + Adjust back-gauge positions, ram depth, tonnage, and bend order. + Set up press brake tooling, including punches, dies, and clamps. + Load and unload material safely, including large or heavy sheets. + Perform first-piece inspections and in-process checks using calipers, protractors, and tape measures. + Read and interpret blueprints, bend diagrams, and job travelers. + Make real-time program or setup adjustments to correct part issues. + Troubleshoot basic machine, tooling, or forming problems. + Maintain quality, safety, and productivity standards. + Communicate setup or program changes to supervisors and other operators. Essential Skills + 2+ years of CNC press brake experience in a production environment. + Ability to program and set up CNC press brakes independently. + Strong understanding of bend allowances, K-factors, and material behavior. + Ability to hold tight tolerances and run complex parts with minimal scrap. + Proficiency with precision measuring tools and angle verification. + Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with multi-axis CNC press brakes. + Experience in heavy-gauge or structural forming. + Ability to mentor or support junior operators. + Overhead crane or advanced material-handling experience. Work Environment The work hours are from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, with up to 10 additional hours available weekly, including optional Saturdays for 5 hours. The work environment is laid back, with a small, diverse group and a focus on training and leadership. Expect to operate in both coil and sheet metal weld areas. The dress code requires boots, long pants with no holes, and flame-retardant shirts. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dixon, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
