Description: JOB ANNOUNCEMENT INVESTIGATOR Chicago Fire Department Internal Affairs Division Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $63,504 Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on 04/03/202 6 Under supervision, investigates complaints relating to City of Chicago Public Safety Department personnel involving allegations of official misconduct, residency violations, criminal activity, or violations of City of Chicago Personnel Rules and/or departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, and performs related duties as required ESSENTIAL DUTIES u00b7 Investigates internal allegations of criminal activity, violations of administrative and personnel rules, and other matters as assigned u00b7 Interviews with complaints, witnesses, and employees u00b7 Handles members of the public as complainants and witnesses u00b7 Conducts site visits and canvas areas to collect physical evidence and examine records and related documents u00b7 Performs moving and stationary surveillances u00b7 Conducts background investigations as part of the pre-employment process and interviews candidates and potential employees u00b7 Liaises with criminal investigators and prosecutors on criminal investigations u00b7 Interviews all parties involved in formal complaints of sexual harassment or violence in the workplace u00b7 Prepares detailed investigation reports using case management systems, documenting findings clearly and accurately u00b7 Participates in on-call rotation responding to incumbent drug testing pursuant to labor agreements and department general orders for fitness for duty issues or motor vehicle accidents u00b7 Testifies in court, at arbitrations, Personnel Board hearings, or other legal proceedings u00b7 Maintains records of investigations, correspondence, and related case documentation u00b7 Assists Investigative Specialists and supervisors in the conduct of large-scale and complex investigations u00b7 Obtains and reviews reports, physical evidence, and electronic records maintained by other agencies related to investigations u00b7 Understands and applies Rules and Regulations as well as DHR personnel rules in administrative investigations u00b7 Operates drug testing and fingerprinting equipment commensurate with the legal requirements for the conduct of those examinations u00b7 Collaborates with attorneys to prepare and present investigative findings at arbitrations and hearings u00b7 Monitors investigations from inception to closure to ensure timely completion _Additional duties may be required for this position_ Location: Chicago Fire Department u2013 Internal Affairs Division 3510 S. Michigan, Chicago, IL 60653 /Citywide Days: Monday u2013 Friday Days Off : Saturday and Sunday Hours: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (on-call rotation) THIS POSITION IS NOT IN CAREER SERVICE Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS u00b7 Five (5) years of work experience in the conduct of investigations of criminal or fraudulent activity OR five (5) years of work experience in the performance of fact finding analyses and investigative research and reporting, OR u00b7 Graduation from an accredited college with an Associateu2019s degree in the Social Sciences, Criminal Justice, Human Resources, or a directly related field, PLUS three (3) years of work experience in the conduct of investigations of criminal or fraudulent activity OR three (3) years of work experience in the performance of fact finding analyses and investigative research and reporting, OR u00b7 Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or higher in the Social Sciences, Criminal Justice, Human Resources or a directly related field, PLUS one (1) year of work experience in the conduct of investigations of criminal or fraudulent activity OR one (1) year of work experience in the performance of fact finding analyses and investigative research and reporting Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications u00b7 A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required. SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires applicants to complete an interview.
