JOB REQUIREMENTS: The Toddler House Float Teacher is responsible forcovering the scheduled or emergency absences of the WMS Toddler Housestaff pool and occasionally our Preschool staff. This includes, but isnot limited to, carrying out Montessori philosophy, supervisingchildren, communicating with parents, and providing a healthy and safeenvironment for children when covering a shift at the Toddler House(ages 16 months - 3.5 years old) and occasionally the Preschool (3 yearsold - 6 years old). Helps with dressing, undressing, andtoileting if needed. Calmly facilitates transition activities.Maintaining the Environment: Assists in caring and maintaining theoutdoor and indoor environments. This may include, but is not limitedto, dishwashing, cleaning shelves, sweeping, and disinfecting. Maintainsthe materials and works according to the Lead Montessori Teacher'sdirectives. Assists children in maintaining the environment. Reports toLead Montessori Teacher if materials are in need of replacement orrepair. Maintains a safe and healthy classroom: Ensures all practicesare in compliance with State Licensing Rules and City Accreditationstandards. Maintains a safe classroom. Maintains a clean and sanitaryclassroom. Follows WMS policy for attendance and knows the whereaboutsof children in their responsibility care at all times. Promotes safe andhealthy behavior between children. Developing an understanding ofMontessori philosophy: Present materials as directed by Lead MontessoriTeacher. Knows existing materials, their purpose and use, and becomefamiliar with new materials. Understands Montessori rationale in termsof approaching each child. Adheres to ground rules and is a role modelfor all. Encourages children to be independent. Allows activities to bechild-led. Carries out WMS Child Guidance Policy. Studies to continuallydeepen understanding of the Montessori philosophy. Establish positiveand productive relationships with families: Relates pertinentinformation to parents if Lead teacher is not available. Promotescommunication with parents. Encourages parents to participate inprogram. Relates all concerns regarding a child to the Lead MontessoriTeacher. Is friendly and positive when communicating any informationregarding a child to the family. To maintain a commitment toprofessionalism: Promotes WMS's philosophy and educational objectives.Follows WMS policies, procedures, and general work rules. Engages inongoing staff development and continuing education to improve personaland professional skills. Attends monthly staff meetings, workshops, andin-service training provided by WMS unless the Director approves ofabsence. Identify signs of emotional or developmentalproblems in children and bring them to parents' or guardians'attention. Instruct children in health and personal habits, such aseating, resting, and toilet habits. Organize and store toys andmaterials to ensure order in activity areas. Perform housekeepingduties, such as laundry, cleaning, dish washing, and changing of linens.Read to children and teach them simple painting, drawing, handicrafts,and songs. Discipline children and recommend or initiate other measuresto control behavior, such as caring for own clothing and picking up toysand books. Regulate children's rest periods.
