Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. The Psychiatrist provides psychiatric consultation to a vulnerable population of Veterans in a variety of settings such as acute non-mental health medical floors, Community Living Centers (CLC), and Emergency Department as well as in the outpatient psychiatric clinic. Major duties and responsibilities include: Makes appropriate referrals to specialty programs, including community resources. Participates in in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaboration with multidisciplinary team members. Coordinates preventive health care needs according to guidelines established by the Department of Veterans Affairs and sound Psychiatric practice. Works in collaboration with primary teams, nursing services, social workers, and other services involved in the clinical care of patients in Emergency Department and acute medical-surgical floors, intensive care units, and the CLC. Establishes interdisciplinary liaisons within the hospital and CLC. Diagnoses psychiatric disorders as specified in the DSM-V by means of observation, interview and mental status examination, medical examination, and integrated interpretation of the results of psychological tests, laboratory tests, radiologic procedures, and personal and family history. Refers patients to other medical specialists, surgical specialists, and allied health professionals when special skills are necessary for diagnostic and/or treatment procedures which are not within the scope of general medical or psychiatric training. Performs on-call duties and perform directly-related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
