Job Description Position Overview We are seeking a Senior Roadway Lead to join our Charlotte, NC, or Raleigh office and play a key role in the planning, execution, and delivery of alternative delivery (Design-Build) transportation projects, with the ability to support traditional Design-Bid-Build delivery as needed. This role is ideal for a strategic, hands-on roadway leader with a strong background in highway design and plan production, proven experience managing complex projects, and the ability to lead teams while collaborating with contractors, design-build partners, and key stakeholders. The successful candidate will ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with organizational and client goals. Key Responsibilities Project & Technical Leadership Lead and oversee roadway design and plan production efforts for alternative delivery projects, supporting Design-Bid-Build delivery when required. Provide technical direction and quality oversight across all project phases, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and client requirements. Support projects from early design through final signed and sealed plans. Alternative Delivery & Pursuits Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with design-build partners, including contractors and engineering firms. Support design-build pursuits, including strategic pursuit planning, stakeholder engagement, proposal development, and execution planning. Assist with risk identification, scope definition, schedule development, and resource planning for alternative delivery projects. Program & Project Management Develop and implement project strategies, including scope, schedules, resource allocation, and risk management plans. Monitor project performance using key performance indicators (KPIs), identifying risks or issues and implementing corrective actions as needed. Oversee project budgets, including forecasting, cost tracking, and financial controls to ensure adherence to project constraints. Collaboration & Communication Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, finance, operations, and external partners) to ensure clear communication throughout the project lifecycle. Prepare and present project status reports to senior leadership and stakeholders, outlining progress, risks, and mitigation strategies. Process Improvement & Business Growth Identify and implement improvements to program management processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance efficiency and consistency. Support business development efforts by driving analysis for growth of new and existing markets and clients. Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and teaming partners. Mentorship & Team Development Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and program managers.
