How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region: Rail Transit Supervisorsare an integral part of the organization, overseeing Metro Transit's Light Rail Operations from the Rail Control Center (RCC). They are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Light Rail system through monitoring and directing rail movement from the RCC. Rail Transit Supervisors are also responsible for field supervision of Rail Operations and Facilities including station platforms, station structures, and equipment. Rail Transit Supervisors are expected to follow and enforce all company policies, procedures, rules, and guidelines. NOTE: This position will create a six-month eligible list for current and future positions. This position will work onsite at the Rail Control Center or will be traveling in the rail operations field. Hours will vary with the requirement to work weekends and holidays. The candidate's permanent residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin. What you would do in this job + Oversees the day-to-day activities and operations for an assigned portion of both mainline and yard territories with a focus on safety and on-time performance. + Monitors, addresses, and thoroughly documents operator performance, on-time rail performance, service delays, emergencies, and facility concerns. + Reacts quickly and utilizes appropriate personnel, both internal and external, to come to a safe and efficient resolution of all special events, service disruptions, and emergencies. + Coordinates with LRT Vehicle and Systems Maintenance to ensure that equipment is available to provide uninterrupted revenue service at all times. + Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure planned and unplanned maintenance activities are safely executed. + 80% of time is spent in a control center setting utilizing highly technical computer software to monitor and control train movement while communicating via 800mhz radio systems. + 20% of time is spent working outside in a field support role, regardless of weather conditions. + Works in a team-centered technical environment; to be successful in the position, individuals must be capable of high mental concentration, work well under stress, and have a strong multi-tasking ability. What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications) Any of the following combinations of experience in transit, transportation, operations, emergency services, military service, fast paced or high-pressure environments or closely related field and completed educational degree with one (1) year of lead, supervisory, or project management experience which may include mentoring or training new employees: + High school diploma/GED with seven (7) years of experience including one (1) year of lead, supervisory, or project management experience which may include mentoring or training new employees . + Associate degree with five (5) years of experience including one (1) year of lead, supervisory, or project management experience which may include mentoring or training new employees . + Bacheloru2019s degree or higher with three (3) years of experience including one (1) year of lead, supervisory, or project management experience which may include mentoring or training new employees . What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications): + Degree in Business, Management, Operations, Transportation, or closely related field. + Experience working in a Control or Dispatch center. + Experience working in an organization that operates 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. + Strong leadership skillset. + Demonstrated ability to promote and support an equitable, positive, and respectful work environment that values cultural diversity among all employees. License Requirement : + Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. + Must maintain valid DOT/medical qualifications. Metropolitan Council Employees Only: Successful completion of any one of the following four Metropolitan Council Leadership/Supervisory training programs will substitute for lead/supervisory experience. You must attach your certificate(s) as proof of completion of the program to your application. Only completion of one of the four programs listed below will substitute credit (6 months or 1 year) for lead/supervisory experience. Metro Transit Leadership Academy = 1 year Project Management Development Program (12-month session) = 1 year Project Management Development Program (6-month session) = 6 months Four Learning Institute Certificates - You must obtain all four certificates listed below to receive credit for 6 months supervisory experience. + Leading Self-Personal Effectiveness Certificate + Leading Self-Communication Certificate + Leading Self-Business Skills Certificate + Leading Others-Preparing for Supervisor Certificate What knowledge, skills and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job: + Skilled in the use of computer applications and the ability to transfer data between software applications with multiple applications open simultaneously. + Ability to efficiently document needed information through the use of keyboarding/typing. + Ability to operate multi-channel Metropolitan Council radio systems. + Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, technical procedures, operating and maintenance manuals. + Ability to write reports, operating procedures, inter-departmental correspondence. + Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees. + Ability to carry out assigned duties in a highly charged and stressful environment for significant periods of time.
