Seneca Turnpike City Jamesville State NY Zip Code 13078 Duties Description The incumbents of the Communications Technician, SG-18, non-competitive positions will be primarily responsible for the installation, programming, and servicing of the cameras and LPR (License Plate Reader) systems, Sierra Wireless Airlink modems, MDT (Mobile Data Terminals) system, E911 CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) systems and TraCS (Traffic and Criminal Software) system within the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP). The incumbents will also be responsible for the installation, programming and service of OPRHPu2019s Trunked Land Mobile Radio (TLMR) systems. The incumbents of these position will report to the Radio Engineer, SG-24, who reports directly to the Assistant Director of Law Enforcement. --Coordinates installation, programming and service of the camera and LPR (License Plate Reader) systems through the statewide Park System.--Liaison between OPRHP and the selected vendors concerning installations, evaluation, managed programs, training and system upgrades.--Troubleshoot and repair video feeds, LPR data, power sources and networks.--Maintains, programs and updates Park Police MDT (Mobile Data Terminal) systems.--Maintains, programs and monitors Sierra Wireless Airlink modems.--Works directly with County 911 centers across New York State for CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system software installations, updates, and connectivity on MDTs. --Maintains, programs and repairs TraCs (Traffic and Criminal Software) program on Mobile Data Terminals and stations computers.--Maintains and updates accurate inventory of all park operations and park police communications equipment.--Provides technical support on any emergency or drill, performing on-scene setup of any or all technical systems aboard any Emergency Command Vehicle or other temporary communications facility.--Maintains liaison with outside vendors for preventative maintenance and repair services.--Travels throughout the New York State Park System in support of communications systems, cameras, LPRu2019s, mobile data terminals and vehicle modems.--Troubleshoots and resolve connectivity issues with radio, cameras, LPR project equipment, mobile data terminals and vehicle modems throughout the state--Troubleshoot and resolve software issues with police fleet mobile data terminals to include GPS, County connectivity, and TraCS throughout the state. --Uses communication system analyzers and associated test equipment.--Maintain liaison with Park Managers and Regional Directors concerning radio communications and tower maintenance.--Coordinate installation, repair and service of all mobile radios and mobile data equipment in emergency and passenger vehicles, which includes police vehicles and park operation vehicles.--Analyze radio and other communications systems suspected of performing below specification.--Operate essential test equipment for all related systems and equipment.--Maintains liaison with vendors for preventative maintenance and repair services and reports any deviations from the contracts.--Specs and purchases replacement equipment and catalogues for OPRHPu2019s 2,062 mobile vehicle radios, 4,100 portable radios, 290 radio control stations, 106 radio base stations, 160 vehicle computers, 165 vehicle airlink modems and 8 dispatcher centers. Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: high school graduate or equivalent and six years of experience maintaining, testing, configuring and installing land mobile radio technologies.Substitutions: an associateu2019s degree in electrical technology or a related field may substitute for two years of experience. A bacheloru2019s degree in electrical technology or a related field may substitute for four years of experience.
