Examples of Work (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.) + Participates and supervises employees in the care and maintenance of an assigned golf course in accordance with industry standards; + Schedules and assigns work activities; trains staff regarding safe work practices; + Prepares performance evaluations, conducts performance appraisals, processes leave requests, and initiates disciplinary actions; + Recommends maintenance staffing needs for the golf course assigned; + Determines the manner in which a maintenance task is to be completed; + Mows, waters, fertilizes, and applies pesticides; oversees maintenance of golf course vegetation with consideration to aesthetics of the course and impacts on wildlife habitats or biodiversity; + Requisitions and issues tools, equipment, and supplies to maintenance employees; + Identifies various turf diseases and applies pesticides or fertilizers, as needed; oversees procedures regarding environmental and clean water concerns to include Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) and Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) compliance; + Recommends the golf course maintenance operating budget and ensures expenditures are maintained within the limits of the budget; + Oversees activities associated with the repair of buildings, bridges, benches, and paths on a municipal golf course, and estimates labor and material costs for each repair project; + Operates a computer to control the irrigation system on the golf course; resolves irrigation and drainage issues; + Inspects defective equipment as needed in order to determine cause of malfunction and performs minor repairs and adjustments; + Develops and implements an equipment maintenance and repair program in order to ensure equipment is properly maintained; + Maintains records and prepares reports. Minimum Qualifications Four (4) years' experience in the construction and/or maintenance of a regulation golf course. Substitution(s): Completion of an accredited program in turfgrass science or management may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. Possession of a valid certificate as a Certified Public Operator (Turf Pest Control category). Possession of a valid driver's license. Test/Job Contact Information The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create aNEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 85% covering Reading Comprehension, Problem Sensitivity, Safety, Mathematics and Golf Course Maintenance Knowledge; and a written Pre-Trip of a Mower exam weighted 15%. The exam is expected to be administered in April. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time. All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
