*** Job description: Basic Function:To service and repair dies, tooling, and machine parts as scheduled and directed by the manager using precision tools and equipment and working within close tolerances in performance of assigned duties. Full or Part time **Duties:** Service, maintain and repair stamping dies and tooling used in production operations to form metal parts within quality specifications to meet designed tolerance levels on part(s) prints. Maintains toolroom equipment as precision instruments. Sets-up and operates machine tools, such as surface grinders, lathes, mills, drill press, cutting tools, etc. Also uses equipment to polish and/or sharpen die parts. Assist press operators and set-up personnel to set die and to troubleshoot material-to-die process/production inconsistencies. Owns and maintains tools necessary to perform the duties of the position. Keeps Toolroom area clean and orderly. Stores die(s) in a safe and organized manner for ease of identification and retrieval. Performs other related work as requested by the supervisor. **Responsibilities:** Is responsible for maximizing the life and usefulness of the die(s) accomplished through utilization of proper maintenance techniques; analysis of part specifications; die construction considerations; proper storage of dies; and knowledge of metal under pressure. Is responsible for the maintenance and operation of toolroom equipment. Improper die maintenance and/or repair and improper set-up can cause major tool damage. Toolroom equipment must be maintained as precision equipment. Is responsible for maintaining tools and dies in such a way as to produce parts that are consistent and have acceptable quality limits. Process variation from improper die maintenance can result in excessive rework, and costly die damage. Is responsible for acting in the best interest of personal health and safety. Is responsible for proper use of safety devices and personal protection equipment. Is responsible for the proper maintenance of tooling and dies so that the operation is safe for others. Is responsible to keep toolroom area clean and orderly and free from unsafe conditions. Assists operators and set-up personnel in die changeovers and set-up, or repairs. **Job Specifications:** Must be able to communicate thoughts and ideas both verbally and in writing to lower and higher levels. Must be able to use shop mathematics (including trigonometry) to verify alignments, dimensions and clearances. High School graduate or equivalent required. Must have working knowledge with toolroom equipment, tools, dies and precision work and/or servicing tools and dies. Must be able to read and understand blueprints, part prints, dimensional tolerancing, set-up instructions and sketches. Must be able read and interpret precision measuring instruments such as a micrometer, calipers, protractor, hardness/thickness/go-no go gages, vernier, sine plate and radius dresser, and other related instruments to work within tolerance levels of .001 inch continuously and .0001 inch at times. Must personally own and be able to effectively work with all hand tools required to perform the duties of the position. Plans own work activities to meet assigned schedules/deadlines. Consults with supervisor on unusual problems or priorities of work. Requires ability to solve problems that demand abstract thought process.
